DRI Lebanon: How it all started and and the way ahead

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability and the development of democratic institutions world-wide. We help support local ways of promoting the universal right of citizens to participate in the political life of their country. Our project “Setting An Agenda for Decentralisation in Lebanon” aims to reinforce effective cooperation between national and local governments and create platforms for coordination and exchange between citizens and local and national authorities. To achieve this aim, DRI works closely with Lebanese civil society partners and cooperates with academics, think tanks and practitioners. Through a country-wide assessment of public service delivery in three sectors (solid waste management, public safety, and citizen participation/inclusion) at the central government level and the municipal level, we provide evidence-based policies that enhance cooperation between national and local governments to improve public service delivery.
