ng networks of dealing with conflicts in a constructive, sensitive and responsible way, encouraging individuals and communities within the Lebanese society to reflect on how to deal with the past, and support local partners through training, capacity development and mentoring to enhance processes towards a culture of dialogue, inclusion and social cohesion which will contribute to reducing tensions and conflict in Lebanon. Founded in 1996 as a response to the wars in the former Yugoslavia , forumZFD was developed by peace and human rights groups who wanted to challenge wars by offering a peaceful alternative to military action. Currently, our peace consultants operate in 13 countries across Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia by supporting communities affected by violent conflicts on their path to peace.

Bringing moments of joy and connection to Tripoli! 🕊️✨

In response to the current challenges, the dedicated volunteers from Truebless are leading sessions for kids in displacement centers. They are working with our Hawli wa Hawalaye manual—a pedagogical toolkit designed to foster non-violence and child well-being by creating a safe and supportive learning environment.

Through this initiative, we and our partners Steps - Civil Company for Change aim to support children in processing the trauma of displacement. By providing a stable space, we hope to help them rediscover their own strengths and build social cohesion across community divides.

استجابةً للوضع الراهن في جنوب لبنان، ننظم جلسات تفاعلية باستخدام دليل "حولي حولي". هدفنا بسيط ولكنه بالغ الأهمية: توفير بيئة آمنة يستطيع فيها الأطفال التعبير عن أنفسهم، وإيجاد الراحة النفسية، وبناء المرونة اللازمة لمواجهة هذه الأوقات العصيبة.

كيف تُشكِّل الجروح التي تحملها المجتمعات إحساسها بالعدالة؟

تركّز الندوة الرابعة من سلسلة استكشاف طبقات العدالة على الصدمة الجماعية والعدالة. فالعنف واسع النطاق لا يترك أثره على الأفراد فقط، بل يطال المجتمعات بأكملها، ويؤثّر في السرديات، ومستويات الثقة، والهويات، وفي ما يعتقده الناس حول شكل العدالة ومعناها.
بمشاركة ممارسين دوليين، سنستكشف كيف تؤثّر الصدمة الجماعية على احتياجات العدالة بما يتجاوز الفرد، وماذا يعني التعامل مع أذى مشترك، مستمر، وغالبًا ما يصعب تسميته. كما سننظر إلى مفهوم الصدمة الجماعية من منظور تفكيكي/ما بعد كولونيالي، ونتساءل بشكل نقدي عمّا إذا كان هذا الإطار يساعد فعلًا في فهم التجارب المعاشة.
تجمع الندوة بين التأملات النظرية وممارسات مجتمعية من كوريا الجنوبية وكشمير، لتقديم أمثلة ملموسة عن كيفية مقاربة العدالة والشفاء في سياقات متأثرة بأذى جماعي.

How do wounds carried by whole communities shape their sense of justice?

The fourth seminar in our Exploring Layers of Justice series focuses on Collective Trauma and Justice. Large-scale violence leaves deep marks not only on individuals, but on whole communities, shaping narratives, trust, identities, and what people believe justice should look like.
Together with international practitioners, we will explore how collective trauma influences justice needs beyond the individual, and what it means to address harm that is shared, ongoing, and often difficult to name. We will also take a decolonial lens to the concept of collective trauma, reflecting critically on whether the framework can fully help us navigate the lived experience.
The seminar will combine conceptual reflections with community-based practices from South Korea and Kashmir, offering grounded examples of how justice can be approached in contexts shaped by collective harm.
Join us Wednesdays on February 4, 11 and 18* from 5:30-8pm Lebanon time.

What does justice mean beyond punishment? And what possibilities open when justice is
understood as repairing harm and mending social relationships, especially in the context of
continuous violence?
Our third seminar in the Exploring Layers of Justice series focuses on “Justice and Social
Relations”. Together with international practitioners, we will explore restorative practices as one
framework that recenters on the restoration of relationships rather than punishing actions.
Rooted in Indigenous and community traditions, these practices can strengthen social ties,
rebuild trust, and offer alternative pathways at the intersection of individual and collective justice
needs.
We will explore how these practices have been used in community settings, transitional justice
processes, and at times within formal institutions - and what tensions or opportunities emerge
when they meet realities of mass violence, fragmented communities, and unequal power
dynamics.

ث ّم انتقلنا إلى المقاربات المجتمعية مع جوستين دي مايو من »التحالف الدولي لمواقع الضمير«، التي عرضت كيف تحّول المجتمعات
مثا من غامبيا: »بيت اًل مواقع الذاكرة إلى مساحات لالعتراف والحوار والتفكير النقدي. وقّدمت ِسّرة نداو من منظمة ANEKED
الذاكرة«، وهو مبادرة تقودها الضحايا لحفظ الشهادات وإبقائها حّية حتى عندما تفشل الدولة في االعتراف بها.

What does truth mean to justice? Can justice be achieved when truths are contested, or is being
heard itself a form of justice? In the second seminar of our Exploring Layers of Justice series,
we explored truth not as a fixed endpoint but as a layered and deeply complex process.
Oral historian Dr. Nompilo Ndlovu offered a critical reflection on South Africa’s Truth and
Reconciliation Commission, showing how official truth-seeking can both illuminate and silence
experiences, and the limits of formal processes in regards to justice and reconciliation.
We then turned to community-based approaches with Justine Di Mayo from the International
Coalition of Sites of Conscience, who shared how communities transform sites of memory into
spaces for recognition, dialogue, and critical reflection. Sirra Ndow from ANEKED followed with
the example of The Memory House in The Gambia — a victim-led memorialisation initiative
preserving testimonies so that their truths remain visible even when the state fails to
acknowledge them.
