As Egypt enters a new phase of agricultural expansion, innovative water solutions are essential for sustainable growth.

ICARDA Director General . Aly Abousabaa , together with Mohie Eldin Omar , ICARDA Country Coordinator for Egypt, and Associate Scientist at Soil, Water and Agronomy Team and partners from the Soil, Water, and Environment Research Institute (SWERI) of ARC Egypt, visited ARC-ICARDA’s desalination business model in Wadi El Natrun, Egypt.

β˜€οΈ πŸ’§ The business model integrates solar-powered desalination, smart water blending technologies, and climate-smart agricultural practices to improve water-use efficiency, support soil health, and enable the sustainable use of brackish groundwater for agriculture.

🀝 Through its long-standing partnership with Egypt, ICARDA continues to deliver science-based solutions that respond to national priorities and contribute to water security, sustainable agriculture, and resilient food systems.

More than half of the Earth's land is rangeland.🐏 🌡

These landscapes provide food, feed, and livelihoods for millions of people, while supporting biodiversity and storing carbon.
Yet climate change, recurrent droughts, and land degradation are putting increasing pressure on these vital ecosystems.

This world Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, we recognize that restoring rangelands is not only an environmental priority. It is essential for food security, resilient livelihoods, and sustainable agrifood systems.

At ICARDA, we work with communities and partners to develop practical solutions that help dryland landscapes thrive for generations to come.
