Tahaddi Lebanon

Tahaddi Lebanon Tahaddi (“challenge” in Arabic) is a Lebanese non-governmental organization. Tahaddi’s centers are open to all and are safe havens for families of the area.

Tahaddi predominantly works in the informal settlement of Hay el Gharbeh in southern Beirut. Tahaddi programs prioritize vulnerable Lebanese families, including members of the Dom ethnic minority. Tahaddi also works with displaced people, victims of conflict and discrimination, migrants and other stateless populations, irrespective of nationality, religion or social background. In addition to esse

ntial services, Tahaddi’s centers advocate on behalf of the community, many of whom are deprived of basic rights. Tahaddi has a longstanding history of advocating for the Dom community, a Lebanese ethnic minority group who are relatives of the Roma of Europe. The Dom are victim to discrimination and social exclusion, including in access to education, healthcare and employment opportunities. Some of them also do not have formal citizenship papers, their legal status perpetuating a cycle of intergenerational poverty. Tahaddi’s three centers - an education center, a health center, and a psychosocial center - are based in the heart of Hay El Gharbeh, an informal settlement in southern Beirut. We believe in community development and work side by side in solidarity with the families of the area. Tahaddi’s uninterrupted presence in Hay el Gharbeh for over 20 years has enabled it to build strong relationships of trust with the community.

As part of Tahaddi’s Youth Community Service Program, four young volunteers visited displaced families living in tents on the streets of Beirut.

They read stories, played games, and spent time with children who have been uprooted from their homes, turning a temporary shelter into a space of laughter and connection.

For our youth, community service means showing up, listening, and standing in solidarity with others.

The Tahaddi Atelier reopened in mid April after months of closure since the start of the war. 🧵

The space is alive again with movement and purpose.

Our team immediately began producing essential items for displaced families while also resuming orders for our customers.

For the youth and women involved, this return restores income, routine, and dignity while giving back to others facing displacement.

Work continues. Solidarity continues. 🤍

Friendship in Times of War

During an SEL session, our students watched the story of two boys who met during the 2024 war, were separated, and later found each other again after being displaced.
Inspired by their reunion, students reflected on what they would say to their own best friends. Their words were honest and heartfelt.
To close the session, they created mandalas using natural elements like leaves and stones; a calming activity that encouraged balance, creativity, and connection.
Even in uncertain times, friendship remains a source of stability.

Back to the workshop. Back to purpose. 🪵✨

This week, our youth in the YTP+ Carpentry Vocational Training resumed their on-site classes at Tahaddi Center.
Despite the ongoing war, their need to feel productive and active was stronger than fear.
Most of the Youth remained in Hay El Gharbeh throughout the war, making it possible to safely return.
The emotions were overwhelming! Being back together, working with their hands, and creating again in uncertain times.

Resilience starts with showing up.

Continuity, care, and commitment no matter the circumstances 💙

Four days a week, children from Hay Al Gharbeh are safely transported to Hamra for speech therapy sessions that build confidence and communication skills.

Today, 32 children benefit from this support, with mothers accompanying each journey.

Being back in person has brought renewed joy and motivation for everyone involved ✨

Mental Health & Wellbeing – Holding On in Difficult Times

In a context where fear, uncertainty, and constant exposure to distress are part of daily life, mental health becomes a critical need.

Children and adults alike are navigating stress, disrupted routines, and ongoing insecurity.

In such moments, small actions can help restore a sense of stability.

Happy Easter 🕊️

May this season remind us that even in the darkest moments, hope is not lost, light still rises, and renewal is always possible.

We wish this Easter brings comfort to every heart, strength to every family, and a quiet sense of peace to our country.

Sometimes, a single look says everything.
While this child holds the blankets given to his family, his expression speaks more than words ever could. In it, we see a quiet reminder of why this work matters, how even the simplest act of care can bring comfort, dignity, and a sense of relief.
This is only possible because of you.

Thank you for standing with us, and for making these moments possible.

When crisis continues, so must we.

Each day brings new challenges for families already carrying so much. And each day, Tahaddi responds with care and compassion. This work is only possible because of people who choose to stand with us and make it possible for us to keep showing up.

A Place to Rest, A Moment of Care

Alia is facing cancer while also living through the hardship of displacement.
When Tahaddi met her, she did not have a proper place to rest. Cancer treatment is exhausting, and recovery becomes even harder without basic comfort and stability.
Tahaddi, together with the youth in the wood workshop, built a wooden bed so she can rest with dignity.
Sometimes care does not come through large numbers; it can be a simple gesture of compassion.

Even as the war continues and thousands of families are displaced, Tahaddi distributed 320 food parcels to the vulnerable families in Hay el Gharbeh.
Many are forced to leave their homes at night to escape the sound of bombardments, living between uncertainty and temporary shelter.
In times of crisis, food is more than assistance. It is comfort, presence, and solidarity.

From skills to service.

At Tahaddi’s carpentry workshop, a trainer, a graduate, and a current trainee from our Youth Transition Program built 10 wooden beds for elderly displaced individuals who cannot sleep on the floor for medical reasons.
The beds were delivered to a school in Hamra currently sheltering displaced families.
In times of crisis, vocational skills become tools for solidarity. Our youth are not only learning, they are responding to urgent needs in their community.
Proud of our students. Proud to stand with our community.
