📢 New Report Launch

Since the fall of the Assad regime and the escalation of sectarian violence in Syria, thousands of Syrians have sought refuge in Lebanon in search of safety. Our latest report sheds light on the reality facing refugees who arrived after December 2024.

🔹 94% fled due to threats to their safety and security.
🔹 77% report having no access to healthcare.
🔹 59% have no access to education.
🔹 58% have received no assistance or guidance since arriving in Lebanon.

The findings reveal significant protection gaps, barriers to legal status, limited access to basic services, and growing vulnerabilities among newly arrived refugees.

CLDH calls on Lebanese authorities, UN agencies, and international donors to strengthen protection measures, uphold the principle of non-refoulement, ensure access to essential services, and provide durable solutions for those fleeing persecution and violence.

Protection of Civilians Week 2026 took place amid a continued global failure to ensure respect for international humanitarian law, with civilians remaining the primary victims of armed conflict. The situation in Lebanon illustrates this protection gap, where repeated cycles of hostilities have continued despite diplomatic efforts to establish a cessation of violence.

This article highlights the evolution of the situation in Lebanon, particularly since the November 2024 cessation of hostilities, as a case study of persistent civilian harm and the lack of effective accountability mechanisms. 📢 NEW REPORT | Left Behind: Systemic Discrimination Against Migrant Workers During the Israeli War on Lebanon

As Lebanon faces the devastating consequences of war and displacement, migrant workers remain among the most marginalized and excluded populations.

This report by the Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) documents patterns of discrimination, exclusion from shelters and humanitarian aid, economic insecurity, arbitrary detention, and barriers to healthcare faced by migrant workers during the recent Israeli war on Lebanon.

The report also highlights how the kafala system continues to expose migrant domestic workers to exploitation, abuse, and severe protection gaps during times of crisis.

CLDH calls for the abolition of the kafala system, equal access to humanitarian assistance, and stronger legal protections for migrant workers in Lebanon.

This year’s global IDAHOBIT theme, “At the heart of democracy”, underscores that democracy cannot exist where discrimination, criminalization, and exclusion persist, denying people their fundamental rights and freedoms.
We, members of the LGBTQIA+ Commission of the EuroMed Rights Regional Working Group on Women’s Rights, Gender Justice and Individual Freedoms, call on the European Union, its Member States, and national governments across the Euro-Mediterranean region to move beyond symbolic commitments and adopt concrete measures to protect and advance human rights for LGBTQIA+.
