5 years already…

Lady Yvonne Cochrane (née Sursock; 18 May 1922 – 31 August 2020) passed away in the aftermath of the catastrophic 4th of August 2020 Beirut Blast.

A philanthropist, public figure, and ardent advocate of the arts, she was fondly remembered as the Advocate of the Lebanese Architecture Heritage — deeply rooted, resilient, and nourishing to her community.

Born in Beirut in 1922, the only daughter of Alfred Bey Sursock and Donna Maria Theresa Serra di Cassano , she embodied a legacy of culture and vision.

As president of the Sursock Museum (1960–1966) and founder of APSAD (1960–2002), she dedicated her life to protecting Lebanon’s natural, architectural, and cultural treasures. She also championed projects to reduce emigration, fostering opportunities in agriculture, textiles, and handicrafts, ensuring people remained connected to their villages and their land.

Her legacy endures — a testament to resilience, grace, and unwavering love for Lebanon. 🌿🇱🇧
