Porphyrios Association was founded in 2002 as a nonprofit organization to consolidate the support to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Beirut institutions, focusing on vulnerable Lebanese communities in Beirut regardless of religion, sect or ethnicity The humanitarian actions of the association include:
* Providing sanctuary for orphans and the homeless
* Ensuring sustenance for vulnerable families
* Assisting with coverage of medical care expenses
* Delivering scholarships for school education
Since its creation, Saint Porphyrios Association has:
* Housed 3,000 orphans
* Provided regular nutrition to 245 elderly and 1,529 families
* Delivered financial support for 4,551 medical consultations, 1,769 dental treatments, and other medical expenses
* Ensured scholarships to 3,808 children, evenly distributed over religious sects
Looking forward, the Association aims to continue helping the community in its struggle to recover from the Beirut port explosion that occurred on the 4th of August 2020, which will have an effect for years to come, while continuing to support the increasing numbers of those in need of help. So far, the association has been exclusively funded by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Beirut, however, with the deteriorating economic situation, and the colossal scale disaster that hit Beirut in 2020, the association has opened up to local and international donors who share the same values and are looking to help the most vulnerable. The association is independently audited by Ernst & Young, with full transparency on all its activities.
