With profound sadness, Tabitha for Relief and Development mourns the passing of Dirk Jan Groot (1945–2026), founder of Dorcas, who devoted his life to serving people facing poverty, vulnerability and injustice.

His faith was reflected in everything he did. He saw need, spoke about it, prayed for it and took action. Through his compassion, determination and commitment to human dignity, he began a humanitarian mission that reached many communities and continues to guide our work in Lebanon.

As we mourn his passing, we renew our commitment to continue what he started. We will keep standing alongside people in vulnerable circumstances, upholding their dignity and turning compassion into meaningful action that restores hope and supports them in building a better future.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and the entire Dorcas community around the world. We pray that God grants them strength, comfort and peace during this painful time.

Thank you, Dirk Jan, for the path you began. We will continue this journey, carrying forward your faith in people and your devotion to serving them.

May he rest in peace, and may his message live on through the work we continue to do.

We zijn bedroefd door het overlijden van onze oprichter Dirk Jan Groot. Dirk Jan was een pionier met een groot geloof. Zijn geloof kreeg handen en voeten in praktische hulp, bewogenheid en vasthoudende inzet voor mensen in kwetsbare situaties. We zijn dankbaar voor wie hij is geweest en voor wat hij voor Dorcas en voor zoveel mensen heeft betekend.

Tabitha organized a two-day training for school educators from Aley and Achrafieh districts, as part of a project implemented in partnership with Vision Hope International e.V. and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

During the training, participants explored child development stages, age-specific needs, and early warning signs that may require follow-up or support.

The sessions also addressed psychoeducational support in schools, cooperation with families and specialists, and ways to promote a safer and more supportive school environment for children.

نظّمت طابيثا تدريبًا لمدة يومين لمربّين ومربّيات من عاليه و الاشرفية، ضمن مشروع تنفذه بالشراكة مع Vision Hope International e.V. وبتمويل من الوزارة الاتحادية الألمانية للتعاون الاقتصادي والتنمية (BMZ).

خلال التدريب، عمل المشاركون على فهم مراحل نمو الطفل بشكل أعمق، والتعرّف إلى الاحتياجات المختلفة للأطفال بحسب أعمارهم، والانتباه إلى المؤشرات المبكرة التي قد تستدعي المتابعة أو الدعم.

كما ناقش التدريب طرق تقديم الدعم النفسي-التربوي داخل المدرسة، وتعزيز التعاون مع العائلات والمختصين، وحماية الأطفال ضمن بيئة مدرسية أكثر أمانًا واحتواءً.

هذا البرنامج، المعتمد من منظمة الصحة العالمية، يزودهم بأدوات عملية ومبتكرة لتعزيز الصحة النفسية والدعم النفسي الاجتماعي في المجتمعات الأكثر احتياجاً 🧡

In a quiet corner of a school in Akkar, Maya* sat with a blank sheet of paper and a pencil.

Maya, a 14-year-old from southern Lebanon, was forced to flee her home with her family, seeking shelter in a school in Akkar, northern Lebanon.

Before displacement, drawing was part of Maya’s daily life. But the impact of hostilities and forced displacement took a toll on Maya’s psychosocial well-being. Traumatized, Maya stopped drawing and withdrew from others.

Tabitha, supported by the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund (LHF), provided a safe space, along with paper, pencils for drawing and the time Maya needed to re-engage at a comfortable pace.

Little by little, Maya began attending psychosocial support sessions, sitting closer to other children and sharing drawings again.

Sometimes, with a little support, recovery begins with a blank page… and a pencil.

في زاوية هادئة من مدرسة في عكار، جلست مايا* أمام ورقة بيضاء وقلم رصاص.

مايا، البالغة من العمر 14 عاماً من جنوب لبنان، اضطرت إلى الفرار من منزلها مع عائلتها، بحثاً عن مأوى في مدرسة في عكار، شمال لبنان.

قبل النزوح، كان الرسم جزءاً من حياة مايا اليومية. لكن تأثير الأعمال العدائية والنزوح القسري أثّر على سلامة مايا النفسية والاجتماعية. وبسبب الصدمة، توقفت مايا عن الرسم وانعزلت عن الآخرين.

وفّرت طابيثا، بدعم من الصندوق الإنساني للبنان (LHF)، مساحة آمنة، إلى جانب أوراق وأقلام للرسم، والوقت الذي احتاجته مايا لتعود إلى المشاركة بالوتيرة التي تناسبها.

شيئاً فشيئاً، بدأت مايا بحضور جلسات الدعم النفسي الاجتماعي، والجلوس بالقرب من أطفال آخرين، ومشاركة رسوماتها من جديد.

أحياناً، ومع القليل من الدعم، يبدأ التعافي بورقة بيضاء… وقلم رصاص.

Fourteen humanitarian workers took part in a four-day Training of Facilitators organized by Tabitha on the World Health Organization’s stress management course, Self-Help Plus (SH+).

The training aimed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to facilitate SH+ sessions in their centers and within the communities they serve, helping to promote mental health and well-being.

This intervention is part of the project “Capacity Building and Structures for Community Development and Resilience through a Robust Community Safety Net in Lebanon,” implemented by Tabitha for Relief and Development in partnership with Vision Hope International e.V., and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

شارك ١٤ عاملًا في المجال الإنساني في تدريب ميسّرين لمدة أربعة أيام نظّمته طابيثا حول برنامج إدارة الضغط النفسي التابع لمنظمة الصحة العالمية، المساعدة الذاتية المُدعّمة.+Self-Help Plus (SH)

وهدف التدريب إلى تزويد المشاركين بالمهارات والمعرفة اللازمة لتيسير جلسات البرنامج في مراكزهم وضمن المجتمعات التي يعملون معها، بما يساهم في تعزيز الصحة النفسية والرفاه.
