Anjar is recognized internationally as an Important Bird Area (IBA), hosting thousands of migratory birds every spring. During this sensitive season, birds stop to rest, feed, and continue their journey toward their breeding grounds, while many species also nest in the area. Illegal spring hunting threatens this natural heritage and the important ecological role birds play in maintaining healthy ecosystems and agriculture. Together, we can protect Anjar and keep it a safe haven for migratory birds.



تُعتبر عنجر منطقة مهمّة للطيور (IBA) ومعترف بها عالميًا لاحتضانها آلاف الطيور المهاجرة كل ربيع. خلال هذا الموسم الحساس، تتوقف الطيور للراحة والتغذية ومتابعة رحلتها نحو مناطق التكاثر، فيما تقوم أنواع عديدة أيضًا بالتعشيش في المنطقة. يشكّل الصيد غير القانوني خلال الربيع تهديدًا لهذا الإرث الطبيعي ولدور الطيور الأساسي في الحفاظ على التوازن البيئي والزراعة. معًا، يمكننا حماية عنجر والحفاظ عليها كملاذ آمن للطيور المهاجرة.

تُعتبر عنجر منطقة مهمّة للطيور (IBA) ومعترف بها عالميًا لاحتضانها آلاف الطيور المهاجرة كل ربيع. خلال هذا الموسم الحساس، تتوقف الطيور للراحة والتغذية ومتابعة رحلتها نحو مناطق التكاثر، فيما تقوم أنواع عديدة أيضًا بالتعشيش في المنطقة. يشكّل الصيد غير القانوني خلال الربيع تهديدًا لهذا الإرث الطبيعي ولدور الطيور الأساسي في الحفاظ على التوازن البيئي والزراعة. معًا، يمكننا حماية عنجر والحفاظ عليها كملاذ آمن للطيور المهاجرة.

The Eastern Olivaceous Warbler is a common and widespread passage migrant and a summer breeder in Lebanon, often found in open woodlands, orchards, and gardens; despite its plain appearance, it is a tireless singer and can mimic the sounds of other birds in its surroundings.

الدخلة الزيتونية الشرقية هي طائر مهاجر شائع ومنتشر في لبنان، كما تُعد من الطيور المفرخة صيفًا، وتُشاهد غالبًا في الأحراج المفتوحة والبساتين والحدائق؛ وعلى الرغم من مظهرها البسيط، فهي مغرّدة نشيطة ويمكنها تقليد أصوات طيور أخرى في بيئتها.

Today, May 4, Fouad Itani, President of ABCL, appeared on Al Jadeed TV to discuss the impact of the war on birds and ecosystems in Lebanon. He also highlighted his new role in the Higher Hunting Council and the importance of protecting biodiversity.

The European Bee-eater is a very common and widespread passage migrant across much of the country, known for its vibrant colors and graceful flight; interestingly, it can catch bees, wasps, and hornets mid-air and remove their stings before eating them.

الوروار الأوروبي هو مهاجر شائع ومنتشر في أغلب المناطق اللبنانية، ويتميز بألوانه الزاهية وطيرانه الجميل؛ ومن المدهش أنه يستطيع اصطياد النحل والدبابير والزنابير في الهواء وإزالة إبرتها قبل أن يأكلها.

The Eurasian Scops Owl is a common and widespread summer breeder in Lebanon, though it becomes scarce during passage and winter. This small, well-camouflaged owl is more often heard than seen, usually detected by its distinctive, repetitive “poo” call echoing through warm nights.

البومة الصمعاء الأوراسية طائر مُفرِّخ صيفي شائع وواسع الانتشار في لبنان، لكنها تصبح نادرة خلال فترتي العبور والشتاء. هذه البومة الصغيرة والمموهة جيدًا تُسمع أكثر مما تُرى، حيث يُمكن التعرف عليها من خلال ندائها المميز والمتكرر “بوو” الذي يصدح في ليالي الصيف الدافئة.

The Association for Bird Conservation in Lebanon (ABCL) was proud to participate in “And Still We Rise: Students in Service, Education in Action” at USEK, held under the high patronage of the First Lady of Lebanon, Mrs. Nehmat Aoun .
We engaged with students to share our work, highlighting the importance of Lebanon’s biodiversity and our role in conservation through awareness and scientific research.
We were also honored to present Mrs. Nehmat Aoun with a copy of our guidebook “Wetland Birds of Lebanon.”

‎شاركت جمعية حماية الطيور في لبنان (ABCL) بكل فخر في فعالية “And Still We Rise: Students in Service, Education in Action” في جامعة الروح القدس – الكسليك (USEK)، التي أُقيمت تحت رعاية السيدة الأولى للبنان، السيدة نعمت عون .
‎تفاعلنا مع الطلاب لعرض عملنا، مسلطين الضوء على أهمية التنوع البيولوجي في لبنان ودورنا في حمايته من خلال التوعية والعمل العلمي.
‎كما تشرّفنا بتقديم نسخة من دليلنا “طيور الأراضي الرطبة في لبنان” إلى السيدة نعمت عون.

The Common Whitethroat is a common and widespread passage migrant and summer breeder in Lebanon, often found in scrublands and open woodlands. This lively warbler is known for its scratchy, energetic song and dramatic display flights during the breeding season. During this time, males become especially vocal as they sing to defend their territory and attract females, often combining their song with characteristic display flights.

دخلة بيضاء الزور طائرٌ شائع وواسع الانتشار كمهاجر عابر ومُفرِّخ صيفي في لبنان، ويُرَى غالباً في الأراضي الشجرية المفتوحة والأحراج. يُعرَف هذا الطائر النشيط بأغنيته الخشنة والحماسية وعروضه الجوية اللافتة خلال موسم التكاثر. وخلال هذه الفترة، يصبح الذكور أكثر غناءً لإعلان سيطرتهم على مناطقهم وجذب الإناث، وغالباً ما يرافقون غناءهم بعروض طيران مميزة.

Across Lebanon, many of the nature reserves, wetlands, and green spaces where ABCL has worked now stand quiet. These are places where we have spent years monitoring birds, protecting habitats, and working with communities to safeguard our natural heritage.

Today, these landscapes are affected by the current situation, with limited access and increasing pressures. Our work continues where possible and safe.

Yet, we hold on to hope.

We look forward to the day we can return, continue our conservation efforts, and reconnect people with nature. Until then, we remain committed to protecting what we can and preparing for better days ahead.

في لبنان، تقف اليوم العديد من المحميات الطبيعية والأراضي الرطبة والمساحات الخضراء التي عملت فيها الجمعية اللبنانية لحماية الطيور بصمت. هذه أماكن أمضينا فيها سنوات في مراقبة الطيور، وحماية الموائل، والعمل مع المجتمعات المحلية للحفاظ على تراثنا الطبيعي.

اليوم، تتأثر هذه المواقع بالظروف الحالية، مع صعوبة الوصول وتزايد الضغوط، ويستمر عملنا فقط حيثما كان ذلك ممكنًا وآمنًا.

ومع ذلك، نتمسك بالأمل.

نتطلع إلى اليوم الذي نعود فيه لمواصلة جهودنا في الحفاظ على الطبيعة وإعادة ربط الناس بها. وحتى ذلك الحين، نبقى ملتزمين بحماية ما نستطيع والاستعداد لأيام أفضل قادمة.
