Dear Giby/Gibycha/Giby Brother/Giby Uncle,
Today we watched you being laid to rest, and we watched the world come to say goodbye. People travelled from different countries, different districts, and different walks of life to honor you — not just for your music, but for who you were as a person.
As the Men’s Voice & Choral Society, we want to thank you for the gift of yourself. Thank you for bringing your voice, your musical discipline, and your love for choir singing. Thank you for your calm presence and for the humor that all of us secretly waited for during rehearsals and even outside them. Thank you for staying with us through challenges, for making the journey meaningful, and for reminding us to enjoy the music itself.
When we gather again as a choir and begin our practices, it will be difficult not to look at your place. Your faithfulness, fellowship, and respect for people set a standard that is hard to match. You guided us, lifted us, corrected us, and pushed us to be better without ever making it about yourself. The farewell hymns we sang today felt heavy, because your voice was missing from them.
Thank you for believing in Men’s Voice and in each one of us for the past 12 years.
The choir will never be the same without you.
The tenor part will never be the same without you.
Christmas seasons in the years ahead will feel different for every one of us when we gather for rehearsals and carols without your laughter and your steady presence.
Thank you for everything you were to us. We will always remember you, we will always love you, and we will carry your influence quietly in the way we sing, the way we work, and the way we show up for each other. We will keep striving to be the best versions of ourselves and to sing for the glory of God, just as you always wanted.
Until we meet again on that shore.
Your MVCSK Family
