Dear WCO friends,
I wish you a very happy and prosperous New Year!
The World Citizens Organization was founded in 1987, at a time when the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games faced serious jeopardy due to the Republic of Korea’s extremely unstable political situation. Its mission was to help ensure the success of the Olympic Games and to promote world peace.
As you may well know, WCO played a decisive role in making the Seoul Olympics a festival of world peace without boycotts. Also, WCO contributed to the peaceful lifting of the “Iron Curtain” and the “Bamboo Curtain,” bringing the world together as one. Following the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, WCO has made sustained efforts since 2006 to revive the ancient Silk Road through the Silk Road Mayors Forum, which has brought together 206 cities from 69 countries across the Eurasian continent.
All of this was made possible by your continued commitment to WCO and its mission. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you.
Now, WCO is preparing for a new beginning and a greater leap forward. In 2025, WCO-Korea was launched with the aim of presenting a new vision and model for a human community that global citizens should aspire to build.
Inspired by the establishment of WCO-Korea, we hope that WCO organizations will be founded in many countries around the world. We further hope that this will enable WCO—on its bold journey to envision human coexistence beyond the borders of nations, religions, races, and ideologies—to bring hope to all humanity.
Once again, we sincerely thank you for your ongoing interest and support, and we kindly ask for your encouragement as WCO continues to grow and move forward.
Best regards,
World Citizens Organization
