Rotary International District 3650 and Korea University Anam Hospital Hold Plaque Unveiling Ceremony for the “Rotary Parents Lounge” in the NICU

Rotary International District 3650 and Korea University Anam Hospital held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the “Rotary Parents Lounge” on June 9 at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Korea University Anam Hospital. The event was organized as part of the Family-Centered Care Initiative for the NICU, a project being implemented through a Rotary Global Grant.

The Rotary Parents Lounge is an emotional support space designed for parents of premature and high-risk newborns admitted to the NICU. It aims to help parents remain close to their children during extended hospital stays and actively participate in their infants’ treatment and care process. As Korea University Anam Hospital is currently undergoing expansion and renovation, the plaque unveiling ceremony was held in advance. The lounge itself will be officially established and operated within the NICU upon completion of the hospital expansion project.

Attending the ceremony were District Governor Nominee Designate Sun Kim, Former Korea University President Jintaek Chung (Samcheong Rotary Club), District Secretary General Sangwoo Lee, and District Service Chair Taesook Han. Representing Korea University Anam Hospital were Vice President for Medical Affairs Sungwoo Lee, Director of the High-Risk Maternal and Neonatal Integrated Care Center Soonchul Hong, and Chair of Pediatrics Jooyoung Lee, along with other key medical staff.

Through its Global Grant project, Rotary International District 3650 supported the overseas training of four medical professionals from Korea University Anam Hospital at Turku University Hospital in Finland earlier this January. The program enabled them to directly learn advanced Family-Centered Care practices. Upon returning to Korea, the medical team shared their experiences and practical knowledge gained through clinical training. In addition, three professors from Finland participated as speakers in the Family-Centered Care Symposium held at Korea University College of Medicine on May 30, which was sponsored by District 3650. The symposium brought together a large number of NICU physicians and nurses from leading university hospitals and tertiary medical centers across Korea, providing a valuable opportunity to share advanced Nordic healthcare systems and Family-Centered Care practices.

Family-Centered Care is a healthcare model that moves beyond traditional provider-centered treatment by recognizing parents as active partners in the care process. The initiative is expected to introduce and expand a new culture of care within Korea’s healthcare system.

District 3650 contributed KRW 10 million through a District Grant to support the establishment of the Rotary Parents Lounge. While naming rights within hospitals typically require donations exceeding KRW 100 million, the Rotary Parents Lounge became possible through the dedication and passion for service demonstrated by Rotary International District 3650.

신생아중환자실 ‘로타리 부모 라운지’ 현판식 개최

국제로타리 3650지구와 고려대학교 안암병원은 6월 9일 고려대학교 안암병원 신생아 중환자실(NICU)에서 ‘로타리 부모 라운지’ 현판식을 개최했다. 이번 행사는 글로벌 보조금 사업으로 추진해 온 신생아 중환자실 ‘가족중심케어 의료 문화 정착 사업의 일환으로 마련되었다. ‘로타리 부모 라운지’는 신생아 중환자실에 입원한 미숙아 및 고위험 신생아 부모들이 장기간 병원에 머물며 아이의 치료 과정에 동참할 수 있도록 돕는 정서 지원 공간이다. 현재 고려대 안암병원이 증축 공사를 진행 중임에 따라 현판식을 먼저 진행하였으며, 라운지는 병원 증축 마무리에 맞춰 신생아 중환자실 내에 정식으로 설치 및 운영될 예정이다.

이날 현판식에는 김선 차차기 총재, 정진택 전 고려대학교 총장(삼청RC), 이상우 사무총장, 한태숙 지구봉사위원장이 참석하였다. 고려대학교 안암병원에서는 이성우 진료부원장, 홍순철 고위험산모 신생아통합치료센터장, 이주영 소아청소년과장 등 병원 주요 의료진이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.

국제로타리 3650지구는 글로벌 보조금 사업으로 통해 올해 1월 고려대학교 안암병원 의료진 4명을 핀란드 투르쿠대학교병원으로 연수 파견해 가족중심케어 선진 사례를 직접 학습할 수 있도록 지원했다. 이들이 돌아와 현장 실습을 통해 얻은 노하우와 핀랜드에서 온 세명의 교수진이 지난 5월 30일 고려대학교 의과대학에서 개최된 가족중심케어 학술대회를 진행했으며, 3650지구가 후원했다. 학술대회에는 전국 주요 대학병원 및 상급종합병원 신생아중환자실 의료진들이 대거 참석해 북유럽의 선진 의료 시스템과 가족중심케어 운영 사례를 공유하는 의미있는 시간이었다.

가족중심케어는 의료진 중심의 치료에서 벗어나 부모를 치료의 동반자로 참여시키는 모델로, 국내 의료현장에 새로운 돌봄 문화를 소개하고 확산시키게 된다. 이번에는 지구 보조금 천만원을 기부하여 ‘로타리 부모 라운지’ 설치한다. 일반적으로 병원 내 명칭 사용은 1억원 이상의 기부를 해야 하지만, 국제로타리 3650지구의 봉사에 대한 열정으로 결실을 맺을 수 있었다. 이러한 봉사가 가능하도록 국제로타리재단(TRF)과 PHF 기부를 통해 함께해 주신 모든 회원들께 깊이 감사드립니다. 한 태 숙

Sister District Agreement Signed Between Rotary District 3650 and District 2405 (Latvia & Southeastern Sweden)

This morning, a Sister District Agreement signing ceremony was held at the Rotary International District 3650 Office, marking the beginning of a formal partnership between District 3650 and District 2405, which encompasses Latvia and southeastern Sweden.

Representing District 2405 were District Governor Jānis Teteris, District Trainer and RYLA Coordinator Māra Majore, and her daughter Elizabete Majore. Attending on behalf of District 3650 were District Governor Kim Jong-moon, Governor-Elect Kim Jin-hwan, Governor-Nominee Kim Sun, International Fellowship Committee Chair Park Sang-jin, District Service Committee Chair Han Tae-sook, Secretary General Lee Sang-woo, Deputy Secretary General Kwon Bo-eun, Deputy Secretary General Ko Joo-hyun, and Deputy Secretary General Ko Young-seop. Together, they shared a meaningful moment of friendship and commitment to future cooperation between the two districts.

Rotary in Latvia experienced a period of inactivity during World War II and the Soviet era. Following the restoration of Latvia’s independence, Rotary was successfully re-established and has continued to grow. Today, District 2405 is an international Rotary district comprising approximately 67 Rotary clubs and 2,000 members across Latvia and southeastern Sweden.

Through this Sister District Agreement, both districts have pledged to strengthen international understanding and friendship while fostering ongoing collaboration in various areas, including youth exchanges, cultural exchanges, fellowship activities, and humanitarian service projects.

It is hoped that this agreement will further solidify the friendship between the two districts and serve as the foundation for a lasting international partnership that will benefit future generations.

[3650지구, 2405지구(라트비아·스웨덴 남동부)와 자매지구 협약 체결]

오늘 오전 국제로타리 3650지구 사무국에서 3650지구와 2405지구(라트비아·스웨덴 남동부) 간 자매지구 협약식이 진행되었습니다.

2405지구에서는 야니스 테테리스 총재, 마라 마요레 지구트레이너 겸 RYLA 코디네이터, 그리고 마라 마요레의 딸인 엘리자베스 양이 참석하였으며, 3650지구에서는 김종문 총재, 김진환 차기총재, 김선 차차기총재, 박상진 국제친선위원장, 한태숙 지구봉사위원장, 이상우 사무총장, 권보은 사무부총장, 고주현 사무부총장, 고영섭 사무부총장이 참석하여 양 지구의 우정과 협력을 다짐하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다.

라트비아 로타리는 제2차 세계대전과 소련 통치 시기 활동이 중단되었으나, 독립 회복과 함께 다시 부활하여 오늘에 이르고 있습니다. 현재 2405지구는 라트비아와 스웨덴 남동부 지역의 약 67개 로타리클럽, 약 2,000명의 회원이 함께 활동하고 있는 국제적인 로타리 지구입니다.

이번 자매지구 협약을 통해 양 지구는 국제이해와 우정을 더욱 증진하고, 청소년 교류와 문화교류, 친선활동 및 봉사사업 등 다양한 분야에서 지속적인 상호 협력을 이어가기로 하였습니다.

이번 협약이 양 지구 간 우정을 더욱 굳건히 하고, 미래 세대까지 이어지는 소중한 국제적 동반자 관계의 출발점이 되기를 기대합니다.

We had a wonderful time volunteering together and sharing a club flag exchange with Rotarian Kristen Chun from the Philadelphia Rotary Club! Kristen is in Seoul on behalf of the Philadelphia Orchestra, ahead of their visit this November. It was truly inspiring to connect through service, and we hope to see her again soon!
