People call Gen Z the "apathetic generation."
New UN data says otherwise.
Of every generation surveyed, Gen Z showed the strongest support for refugees — and the least support for closing borders.
This, even as misinformation and hate speech about asylum seekers keep rising.
A UNHCR official described visiting a camp in Burundi sheltering 57,000 refugees from the DRC.
"Generosity cannot replace international responsibility," she said.
Empathy is still out there. It's just carried by a generation nobody expected.

That is why humanitarian action is not only about emergency aid—it is about protecting dignity when people are most vulnerable.

2017 Sunhak Peace Prize Laureate **Dr. Gino Strada** was a war surgeon and the founder of **EMERGENCY**, established in 1994 to provide medical care for victims of war, poverty, and landmines.

His belief was clear:
**“The right to be cured” is non-negotiable.**

On the frontlines, his work showed that neutrality matters—
but care is mandatory.

This August, the UN Security Council is holding a debate called "Food Under Fire." Heavy name, heavier reason.
It's about what happens when fighting cuts off farms, aid, markets — on purpose🚫
The UN Secretary-General and the World Food Programme are briefing the Council directly on this🗣️
Feeding people in a war zone shouldn't need a Security Council debate to happen. Shouldn't. But here we are😔

Monkeys, sloths, opossums — literally nowhere safe to cross. Not okay.
So biologist Fernanda Abra just… built rope bridges through the canopy. That's it. That's the plan🌿
15 months later: 15,000 safe crossings caught on camera. 15,000📸
Roadkill count? Zero. Not one✅
Some animals needed 7 months to trust the bridge. Trust issues, we get it. But they came around🐒

Respect. Real education. An actual job. A voice that doesn't get ignored.
"Different contexts, common aspirations" — that's the UN's theme this year, and it hits🎯
The UN Secretary-General's ask is simple: give youth an actual seat at the table🪑
