💧[ Korea International Water Week (KIWW) 2025 Highlights ]

▶️ Theme Building Smart Water Future by Sharing Experience and Technology

Korea International Water Week has been playing a pivotal platform connecting policies with practice and link technologies with implementation, by engaging central and local governments, businesses, NGOs, academia, research institutes, and citizens.

This year KIWW 2025 presented the Global Partnership Forum - Development Cooperation for Water Security and Global Youth Program with the vision of its role in bridging the gap in technologies, regions and generations in water sector. Water Expo provided co-creating spaces for multilateral partnership in combination with thematic pavilions including AI and Water, Ultrapure Water, Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction as well as Cooperation Hub Pavilion. KIWW has become a platform for sharing sustainable water management visions for humanity and nature, as well as for exploring avenues for collaboration and the exchange of experiences and technologies. KIWW 2025 welcomed over 9,000 participants from 53 countries to share diverse experiences and technologies and to strengthen cooperation in addressing and tackling waterrelated challenges.

🌊 KIWW 2025 Global Youth Program (GYP)
This year, 23 young water professionals from 15 countries gathered in Korea to discuss the future of global water governance.
The GYP is more than a youth session—it is a platform that empowers the next generation of water leaders to exchange ideas, learn from global experts, and build meaningful partnerships beyond borders.
💡 Keynote by Dr. Glen Daigger (Professor at the University of Michigan)
Professor Daigger emphasized that the water sector is entering a new era shaped by:
• Integrated Water Management (One Water)
• Resource efficiency and recovery
• Resilience-based design
• Water and sanitation as a human right
He reminded us that water is a team sport—and that young professionals play a critical role as bridge builders connecting disciplines, communities, and generations.
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Youth Discussions
Participants worked in four thematic groups:
1. Water, Environment & Public Health
2. Innovation & AI in Water Management
3. International Development Cooperation
4. Water–Food–Energy–Education Nexus
Each group shared challenges from their countries—ranging from water scarcity, public health risks, and climate impacts to data gaps, governance issues, and technological barriers.
Together, they proposed future-focused solutions and suggested themes for the GYP 2026.
✨ Why GYP Matters
This program provides a rare opportunity for young voices—engineers, researchers, policymakers, and innovators—to contribute directly to global water discussions.
Their ideas and collaboration will shape future water policies, partnerships, and sustainable solutions aligned with SDG 6.
