Refugee Women Speak: Exile, Identity, Motherhood & Hope
In honor of World Refugee Day 2026, Hanokers presents our 16th Refugee Insights — a powerful evening with two mothers, journalists, and rights advocates whose voices deserve to be heard.
Shaimaa, an Egyptian journalist and passionate advocate for refugee women, will share her lived experience navigating life in Korea as a Muslim woman, a factory worker, a mother, and a wife. Alongside her, Cynthia — a Burundian refugee rights advocate and Gyeonggi-do Province honorary Ambassador— brings her own story of resilience and resistance.
Together, they reflect on exile and belonging, identity across borders, the realities of motherhood in a foreign land, and the hope they carry for their children’s futures in Korea.
