Last year. Funtastic Pinoy was honored to participate, together with the Philippine Embassy, the Mayor of Goyang, Korean War veterans, and distinguished guests, in commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the June 25 (6·25) Korean War.
June 25, or 6·25 전쟁, marks one of the most significant events in Korean history—the day the Korean War began. It was a time when South Korea fought to defend its freedom and democracy.
When Korea needed help, the Philippines answered the call. Under the leadership of Former President Elpidio Quirino, the Philippines sent 7,420 brave Filipino soldiers through the Philippine Expeditionary Forces to Korea (PEFTOK). The Philippines was the first Asian nation to send combat troops in support of South Korea. Among those who served was President Quirino's own son. Also among the Filipino soldiers who served in the Korean War was Former President Fidel V. Ramos, whose service became a proud part of our nation's history.
Today, the Korean people continue to honor and remember the courage, sacrifice, and friendship shown by the Filipino soldiers who fought for the Land of the Morning Calm.
We remember. We honor. We are forever grateful.
