On December 10, 2025, the Center for Security Policy Studies-Korea (CSPS-Korea) held a certificate presentation ceremony for student fellows who completed their one-year fellowship during the Fall semester. The certificates were presented by Dr. Moon Joon Kim, Acting Director of CSPS-Korea, to Hyeonmin Kwon and Eunchong Yim.

During the Fall 2025 semester, Hyeonmin Kwon served as a Research Assistant, while Eunchong Yim participated in the Mason Impact program during the previous Fall semester. Throughout their one-year fellowship, both fellows contributed to CSPS-Korea initiatives, including the annual International Security Symposium and the Distinguished Speaker Series. Both fellows look back on a truly rewarding year and are grateful for the opportunity to be part of CSPS-Korea.

2025년 12월 10일, 한국안보정책연구소(CSPS-Korea)는 1년간의 학생 펠로우십 과정을 마친 학생들을 대상으로 수료증 전달식을 진행하였습니다. 이번 수료증은 CSPS-Korea 소장을 맡고 계신 김문준 교수님께서 권현민 펠로우와 임은총 펠로우에게 전달해 주셨습니다.

The Center for Security Policy Studies–Korea (CSPS-Korea) is now accepting applications for the Spring 2026 – Fall 2026 Student Fellowship.

Selected fellows will deepen their expertise in East Asian and global security, conduct individual and faculty-guided research, and assist with research, administrative, and event-related tasks.

Program Highlights:
• 6 office hours per week
• Research and project participation
• Seminars, conferences, and institutional visits
• Networking opportunities and a certificate of completion

Eligibility:
GPA 3.5 or higher, Sophomore (2nd semester) or above, Global Affairs Major/Minor

On September 27th, 2025, CSPS-Korea conducted a hybrid Regular Fellowship Meeting to start the Fall 2025 semester and outline the plans for the upcoming term. The meeting opened with remarks from Dr. Moon Joon Kim, the Acting Director of CSPS-K, and Dr. Soyoung Kwon, the Director of CSPS-K. This was followed by introductions from both the current Student Fellows and the former Senior Fellows.

Following a short briefing on the upcoming Fall Symposium plan by Dr. Intaek Han, Dr. Ji Hye Lim, and Dr. Boyoung Kim shared updates on their ongoing research projects. A special session with Honorary Fellow Huiyong Kim was also held, during which he shared career insights and experiences that inspired the current fellows.

CSPS-Korea would like to extend special thanks to all faculty members, alumni, and Student and Junior Fellows who made the time to attend the meeting. We look forward to an engaging and productive Fall 2025 semester together!

On June 16, 2025, Dr. Moon Joon Kim, the Acting Director of the Center for Security Policy Studies-Korea delivered student fellowship completion certificates to Minji Kim and Samuel Sims. On May 16, 2025, student researchers affiliated with the Center for Security Policy Studies–Korea (CSPS-Korea) participated in the 2025 IGC Research Showcase, presenting work under the guidance of Dr. Moon Joon Kim, Acting Director of CSPS-Korea, and Dr. Boyoung Kim, Research Faculty of CSPS-Korea.

Dr. Moon Joon Kim delivered a faculty presentation titled “Estimating the Impact of PM2.5 on Solar Power with Machine Learning: Evidence from South Korea,” offering a timely exploration of the intersection between environmental data science and energy policy.

Research Assistant Hayoung Yun presented an in-depth analysis on the manifestation of geopolitical bias in large language models. Student Fellows Minji Kim, Hyeonmin Kwon, and Samuel Sims delivered research on media trust among Generation Z in South Korea, comparative frameworks for sustainable urban development, and international approaches to artificial intelligence governance and innovation, respectively. Junior Fellow Seungeun Choi contributed a study examining the role of AI in shaping environmentally responsive policy, in alignment with the showcase’s overarching theme of artificial intelligence.

On April 30, 2025, the Center for Security Policy Studies-Korea (CSPS-Korea) welcomed Dr. Daniel Houser, Chair of the Department of Economics at George Mason University, as part of its ongoing Speaker Series.

Dr. Daniel Houser is the Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Science at George Mason University and a leading scholar in economics, neuroeconomics, and political economy. His research has been widely published across top journals in economics, psychology, and neuroscience, and has been cited extensively across disciplines.

In his presentation, "Tariff Policy: A Public Discussion," Dr. Houser gave an overview of how tariffs serve as a strategic and economic tool. He examined the wider effects of tariffs on national savings, trade deficits, and international investment flows while providing statistics to demonstrate how they impact consumer prices and trade dynamics in the USA. His discussions offered a data-driven perspective on the rationale behind current U.S. tariff policies and their global implications.

CSPS-Korea thanks Dr. Houser for his timely and insightful contribution to the economic and strategic understanding of tariff policy.
