대우자동차를 사랑하시는 모든 분들, 안녕하십니까?
대우자동차의 헤리티지를 지켜나가는 대우자동차보존연구소 연구원 일동입니다.
2026년 4월 24일 오늘 부로 저희 대우자동차보존연구소는 기념비적인 창립 5주년을 맞게 되었습니다.
이에 지금까지 많은 성원을 보내주신 구독자 분들과, 대우자동차를 사랑하는 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사 인사를 드립니다.
지난 2021년, 사라진 자동차 브랜드의 보존 필요성에 대해 모두가 의문을 제기할 때, 그저 대우자동차의 가치와 저력을 사랑하는 사람들끼리 대우자동차보존연구소를 시작했습니다.
자동차문화가 융성한 해외와 달리, 국내에서는 전례가 없던 일이었습니다.
그 과정에서 연구소는 개발이 좌절된 프로토타입 차량을(대우 P100) 보존하려도 했고, 숨겨진 대우자동차의 이야기들을 파헤치고자 디지털 아카이브 프로젝트를 추진하기도 했습니다. 하지만 이 모든 발걸음들이 성공적이지는 못했으며, 때로는 뼈아픈 실패로 이어지기도 했습니다.
그런데 같은 시기, K-컬쳐, K-브랜드가 글로벌 시장에서 그 진가를 인정받기 시작했습니다. 이처럼 한국 고유 브랜드의 헤리티지가 더욱 중요해지는 상황 속에서, 우리는 한국의 근대식 자동차 산업을 열어낸 대우자동차 계열(신진 / 새나라 / GMK / 새한 / GM대우)에 산업사적 의미를 더해나갈 필요를 느꼈습니다.
이에 연구소는 대담하고 발칙해졌습니다.
지난 2024년에는 그 시작으로 인천도시역사관의 특별전이 개최되었습니다. 대우자동차 계열을 중심으로 조명한 국내 최초의 전시에는 수많은 인파가 몰리며 큰 관심을 끌었습니다.
이듬해인 2025년에는 자문, 자체 전시회 을 개최하며 대우차의 존재가치를 알리고자 더욱 발로 뛰었습니다. 아쉬움도 있었지만, 후회는 남기지 않아 더욱 값졌습니다.
심지어는 한국GM과 '2025 대전 체험형 모빌리티쇼'에 공동 전시를 성사시키며, 모두가 상상 못한 '현재와 과거의 끊임없는 대화'를 성사시킬 수 있었습니다. 그 모든 여정에는 항상 대우자동차와, 연구소를 따뜻하게 바라봐주신 모든 분들의 시선이 있었습니다.
이제 연구소는 다섯번째 여정에 나서고자 합니다.
3월 삼성화재 모빌리티 뮤지엄과의 카밋 이벤트를 시작으로, 5월부터는 대우재단의 아카이브 구축에 카운터파트로 합류할 예정입니다. 대우자동차 사람들의 이야기를 모으고, 정리하는 과정을 함께하면서 연구소는 더욱 의지를 불태우게 되었습니다.
또한, 3월 카밋과 같이, 우리의 성과와 자산을 모두와 함께할 수 있는 자리를 지속적으로 마련하고자 준비 중입니다. 여러분들은 연구원들과 끊임없이 소통하고, 대우자동차의 가치를 느낄 수 있는 많은 기획을 만나게 될 예정입니다.
사라진 대우자동차를 찾아 나선 다섯번째 여정 속에서, 연구소는 헤리티지를 향한 열정으로 닫힌 미래를 바꿔나가겠습니다.

Dear all Daewoo Motor enthusiasts,
Greetings from all of us at the Daewoo Motor Archive Center (DMAC), dedicated to preserving the heritage of Daewoo Motor.
As of April 24, 2026, we are proud to mark a milestone—our 5th anniversary.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all our subscribers and everyone who has supported and shared their love for Daewoo Motor.
Back in 2021, when many questioned the need to preserve a defunct automobile brand, we began this journey simply as a group of people who believed in the value and legacy of Daewoo Motor. Unlike countries with well-established automotive cultures, this was an unprecedented endeavor in Korea.
Along the way, we attempted to preserve an unrealized prototype vehicle (Daewoo P100) and launched digital archive projects to uncover hidden stories of Daewoo Motor. Not all of these efforts were successful, and at times, we faced difficult setbacks.
However, during the same period, K-culture and Korean brands began gaining global recognition. In this changing landscape, we felt a stronger responsibility to highlight the industrial and historical significance of the Daewoo Motor lineage—Shinjin, Saenara, GMK, Saehan, and GM Daewoo—which helped shape Korea’s modern automotive industry.
With that realization, we chose to be bold.
In 2024, we took our first major step by participating in the “40 Years of Incheon Automobiles” special exhibition at the Incheon Urban History Museum. As the first exhibition in Korea to focus on the Daewoo Motor lineage, it drew significant public attention and large crowds.
In 2025, we further expanded our efforts—providing advisory support for the Incheon Automotive Industry Oral History Project and hosting our own exhibition, “Glory, Trials, and Now:”. Though there were challenges, we have no regrets, which makes the journey all the more meaningful.
We also achieved something few could have imagined—co-hosting a joint exhibition with GM Korea at the 2025 Daejeon Interactive Mobility Show(DJIMS 2025), creating a powerful dialogue between the past and present of Daewoo Motor.
Throughout this journey, we have always felt the support and encouragement of those who cherish Daewoo Motor.
Now, we embark on our fifth chapter.
Starting with the Car Meet event at the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Mobility Museum in March, we will join the Daewoo Foundation’s archive project as a counterpart from May. Through collecting and organizing the stories of those who were part of Daewoo Motor, we are more motivated than ever.
At the same time, we will continue to create opportunities—like our Car Meet events—where we can share our achievements and assets with all of you. You will be able to engage with our researchers and experience the value of Daewoo Motor through various upcoming initiatives.
As we set out on this fifth journey to rediscover Daewoo Motor, we will strive to reshape the future through our passion for its heritage.
