[The 4th Mekong-Korea International Water Forum (MKWF)]

We are pleased to announce that the 4th Mekong-Korea International Water Forum (MKWF) will be held on 1–2 October 2026 at The Westin Josun Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The theme of the 4th MKWF is:
“Climate Resilience through Digital Water Management in the Mekong Region”

The Forum will bring together government representatives, development partners, experts, academia, and private sector stakeholders to strengthen regional cooperation and exchange experiences in water management and climate resilience.

The program will include:
• Opening Ceremony and Adoption of a Joint Statement
• High-level Dialogue
• Development Partners Session
• Mekong Business Roundtable
• Water Technology Exhibition
• Technical Visits

[KOMEC Partnership Day]

On April 23, 2026, the Korea-Mekong Water Center (KOMEC) successfully hosted the KOMEC Partnership Day in Hanoi, Vietnam.

KOMEC brought together key stakeholders from Mekong governments, development partners, and Mekong-Korea Cooperation Fund (MKCF) project implementing agencies to share progress, exchange insights, and strengthen regional cooperation.

• MKWF Agenda Lab
Discussing the role of the Mekong-Korea International Water Forum (MKWF) as a platform that connects high-level dialogue with practical financing and project development.
• MKCF Knowledge Hub Strategy Workshop
Reviewing the achievements of Phase 1 (“Integration of Knowledge Hub for Water and Environment”) and discussing the strategic direction for Phase 2.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to align future priorities, advance preparations for the 4th MKWF, and explore concrete areas for collaboration.

KOMEC remains committed to strengthening regional cooperation and will continue to foster collaboration with Mekong countries.

[Capacity Building Program for River Restoration]

From April 5–10, 2026, the Korea-Mekong Water Center (KOMEC) successfully organized the Capacity Building Program for River Restoration across Seoul, Asan, and Daejeon in the Republic of Korea.

This program was designed to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance professional expertise through a combination of lectures, site visits, and a workshop. The program featured key modules on:
• River Restoration
• Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)
• Wastewater Treatment Technologies

KOMEC welcomed eight participants from Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Department of Water Resources and Management.

Through active engagement and knowledge exchange, participants deepened their understanding of sustainable water management approaches.

Participants visited K-water Headquarters, the Asan New Town Water Environment Center, the Cheonggyecheon Museum, and key sites within the Han River basin.

Through these site visits, they further strengthened their capacity in river restoration and gained practical insights into Korea’s water management policies and technologies, including the Cheonggyecheon stream as a notable example of river restoration.

KOMEC remains committed to strengthening regional cooperation and will continue to foster collaboration with Vietnam.

2025년도 8월 한-베 정상회담이 개최되었습니다.
이번 한-베 정상회담 공동성명에서는 한국과 베트남 간의 수자원 분야 협력 강화가 강조되고, 이를 위한 한메콩 물관리센터의 역할이 명시되었습니다.
한메콩 물관리센터는 앞으로도 베트남을 비롯한 메콩 국가와 한국의 지속가능한 물 분야 협력 관계 구축을 위해 노력할 것입니다.

The Bilateral Summit between the Republic of Korea and Vietnam was held in August 2025. During the summit, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation, particularly in the field of water resources, and highlighted the leading role of the Korea-Mekong Water Center (KOMEC) in advancing this partnership.
KOMEC remains committed to fostering sustainable water cooperation between the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, and the broader Mekong region.

🌟The 3rd MKWF Concludes with Great Success!

We’re proud to share that the 3rd Mekong-Korea International Water Forum (MKWF), held from March 24 to 25 in Daejeon, Korea, wrapped up successfully.

📌 About MKWF
Launched in 2022, the MKWF is an international water forum that serves as a water diplomacy platform, driving global cooperation on water issues and sustainable development in the Mekong region.
(Organized by KOMEC, hosted by the Ministry of Environment of the RoK and K-water, and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RoK)

👀The 3rd MKWF at a glance
The 3rd MKWF brought together over 240 participants, including high-level officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as experts from development partners such as Mekong River Commission (MRC), Mekong Institute (MI), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Australian Water Partnership (AWP), and Korean private water companies.

🔑Main Theme
This year’s theme—"Enhancing Climate Resilience in the Mekong Region through Digital Water Management"—continued from previous events, allowing for deeper and more focused discussions.

🎯Program Highlights
🔹Day 1: Featured high-level dialogues, a development partner session, and a Mekong business roundtable. The roundtable, in particular, which connected Mekong officials with Korean water companies, received an enthusiastic response as a signature MKWF event.
🔹 Day 2: Included a special session on the international cooperation fund and the MKCF Milestone Event.
Alongside the main sessions, the forum also hosted a Digital Water Exhibition, bilateral meetings, and field trips to Korea’s advanced water management facilities—providing valuable opportunities for exchange and on-the-ground learning.
