The UNESCO IHP National Committee of the Republic of Korea—one of AWC’s active member organizations—has further strengthened its leadership in global water governance.

During the recent Extraordinary Session of UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme (IHP), Prof. Kwansue Jung of the UNESCO IHP National Committee of the Republic of Korea was elected as Vice-Chair of the Bureau representing Asia and the Pacific, following Korea’s re-election to the IHP Intergovernmental Council at the 43rd UNESCO General Conference.

This achievement reflects the strong engagement of the Korean Committee in international cooperation mechanisms and is expected to contribute to advancing dialogue on water policy, innovation, and collaboration within the global community.

AWC President Meets Viet Nam’s Vice Minister of Agriculture and Environment 🇻🇳🇰🇷🌍

On the sidelines of the 23rd AWC Board of Council Meeting & Technical Seminar, the AWC President (CEO of K-water), Dr. Seogdae Yun, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Lê Công Thành, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) of Viet Nam.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the water sector and discussed opportunities to expand collaboration, including digital transformation and advanced water management solutions.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of AWC and the Government of Viet Nam to address regional water challenges and promote sustainable, innovative approaches for the future.

The 23rd AWC BoC Meeting & Technical Seminar was successfully held on 5–6 November 2025 at the JW Marriott Hanoi, Viet Nam. 🇻🇳🇻🇳

Co-hosted with our strong partners and the , and supported by the Government of Viet Nam, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ( ), the event brought together leaders, experts, companies, and partners from across Asia.

💧 Water companies showcased innovative technologies
🤝 Delegates engaged in knowledge exchange and discussed new cooperation projects
🌏 The AWC Board reviewed major agenda items, including preparations for the 4th Asia International Water Week (AIWW) to be held in the Philippines in 2027

💧 On July 9 at the UN Headquarters,
Mr. Jaejin Han, Executive Director of the Asia Water Council (AWC),
delivered key messages at the Multi-Stakeholder Interactive Session
of the 2026 UN Water Conference PGA Meeting.

Speaking on behalf of AWC members,
he emphasized the need for the 2026 Conference to move beyond declarations —
calling for practical steps through inclusive and innovation-driven governance.

His remarks focused on four key priorities:
1️⃣ Project-based, practical cooperation
2️⃣ Leveraging digital innovation, including AI
3️⃣ Connecting regional experiences with global efforts
4️⃣ Institutionalizing youth and community engagement

AWC remains committed to supporting the Water Action Agenda
and achieving SDG6 in close collaboration with the UN and international partners.

The AWC Secretariat Engages in Climate Change Research Conference! 🌱🌏🌞

On June 19–20, the AWC participated in the 2025 Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Climate Change Research held in Seoul, under the theme “Climate Change and Climate Justice.”

In partnership with K-water, AWC hosted a special session titled “Governance and Water Cooperation for Climate Resilience.” The session brought together national and international institutions including the Korea Meteorological Institute, the National Institute of Environmental Research, and leading universities. Participants discussed strategies to strengthen water governance and expand international collaboration in response to the climate crisis.

AWC will continue to lead collaborative efforts for sustainable development and water-centered climate action across Asia and beyond.
