Tonight, ICN and the World Health Organization (WHO) are co-hosting a discussion on strengthening nursing engagement in global health at ICN head office in Geneva.

The event brings together nursing leaders, WHO representatives, WHO Collaborating Centres, and global partners to discuss strengthening nursing leadership, accelerating progress on the Global Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery, and advancing collaboration across global health.

On May 12, 2026, the Sitara Association, in partnership with the Student Association of the School of Medicine and Public Health (EMSP), and with the support of several institutional and health partners, commemorated International Nurses Day in Moroni under the theme:

โ€œ๐Ž๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ. ๐Ž๐ฎ๐ซ ๐…๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž. ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐’๐š๐ฏ๐ž ๐‹๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ.โ€

The event recognized, reflected on, and engaged people about the vital role nurses play in strengthening the healthcare system in the Comoros.

The day began with a scientific conference titled: โ€œ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ: ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ฌ, ๐Ž๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐…๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ,โ€ presented by Mr. Ameldine Dachiroudine, Community Health Promotion Specialist and President of the Sitara Association.

The conference provided an opportunity to discuss the realities of the nursing profession in the Comoros, the challenges healthcare professionals face in their daily work, and the opportunities to further strengthen nursing leadership and the national health system.

The celebration continued with educational activities, a health knowledge competition, student-led health-awareness skits, and cultural performances, all in a dynamic and engaging atmosphere.

The official ceremony was honored by the presence of several distinguished authorities and partners, including ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐ˆ๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐จ๐ข ๐€๐ฅ๐ข ๐“๐š๐›๐ข๐›๐จ๐ฎ, Rector of the University of the Comoros; ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐€๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ฒ ๐€๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐๐จ๐ฎ, Director of El-Maarouf National Hospital Center (CHN El-Maarouf); ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Š๐š๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ ๐€๐ก๐š๐ฆ๐š๐๐š, Director of the School of Medicine and Public Health, and ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐๐ž๐ง ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ซ๐š๐Ÿ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐€๐›๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ก๐ข, Communications Officer, representing WHO Comoros on this occasion.

Through this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting the nursing profession, strengthening healthcare leadership, and contributing to a stronger and more resilient health system in the Comoros.

The Sitara Association had the opportunity to engage with Douleurs Sans Frontiรจres during meetings held in Ngazidja and Ndzuani.

These meaningful and productive discussions allowed us to share experiences, assess current capacities, and identify practical ways to strengthen palliative care in the Comoros.

This collaboration marks an important step toward more compassionate, inclusive, and patient-centered care.
