Piglets for Cambodians is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to empowering rural Cambodian families by providing them with the means to achieve sustainable livelihoods and break the cycle of poverty. Recognizing the limited opportunities for economic advancement in these communities, where average monthly wages often fall below US$100, our mission is to offer a pathway to financial independence through livestock farming. Our Mission:
We believe that a single piglet can transform lives. By gifting female piglets to families in need, accompanied by proper training and resources, we enable them to establish a sustainable source of income. This initiative not only enhances their financial stability but also fosters community development and self-reliance. Our approach is both innovative and self-sustaining:

Piglet Gifting: We provide a female piglet to a selected family, ensuring they have the necessary support to care for and raise the animal. Training and Resources: Families receive comprehensive training in livestock management and, where necessary, assistance in constructing suitable pigsties to ensure the well-being of the piglets. Reinvestment for Community Growth: Once the sow gives birth, the family donates one female piglet back to our organization. This piglet is then gifted to another family, perpetuating the cycle of empowerment and expanding our reach within the community.

🐷 One Village. Three Projects. Room in the Family for You. 🐷

Ever thought "I'd love to get properly involved in something that helps Cambodia," but never quite knew where to start?

This might be it.

In a beautiful village just outside town, three great projects share one great space: Piglets for Cambodians (P4C), bfok.school, and a huge vegetable garden spanning three adjacent blocks, nearly a full hectare.

P4C has only been running for two years, but in that time it's already proven the model works, gifting breeding piglets to families who build real income from home and pass piglets forward to the next family in line. Right alongside it, bfok.school has been part of this community for over a decade, with mango trees, flower gardens, and some of the most amazing kids you'll ever meet. Together, the three have become one collective effort, with more growing all the time: biogas, Black Soldier Fly systems, biochar, permaculture, companion planting, and teaching the kids agriculture and biology alongside their regular lessons.

We're not a big NGO with layers of bureaucracy. We're a real, working project, and right now we need a few more hands and hearts. In order of what we need most:

📱 Social Media Lead We've got a villager on the ground capturing photos and video every week. We just need someone to turn that into posts, reels and stories that bring it all to life online. If storytelling is your thing, this is the role.

🌱 Circular Garden Developer Nearly a hectare across three blocks, and huge potential. Help us grow it into a closed loop system through biogas, biochar, Black Soldier Fly larvae and permaculture design, feeding the students, the animals, and the families, all from the same ground. Great fit for anyone into agriculture, ecology or systems design who wants to research and build alongside us.

🏡 Visitors Centre / Petting Zoo Help us design and build a home where visitors can meet far more than just piglets - think ducks, chickens, rabbits, goats, frogs, bats, and a fishing pond. We already have schools interested in partnering to make it a proper education hub. Part petting zoo, part classroom, all heart.

📚 Volunteer Teachers Teach at what might be the most beautiful school in Siem Reap Province. Mango trees, flower gardens, incredible kids.

This is a place to research, learn and grow alongside us, not just volunteer for an afternoon. Come with curiosity and you'll get a reason to get up in the morning, that genuine warm feeling of helping, and a new family among some of the most wonderful Khmer people you'll ever meet. And this isn't a one off. It's a pilot, and everything we build here together will be replicated to help many more Cambodian families in the years ahead.

Got permaculture or farming know-how? We'd love your input
Piglets for Cambodians (P4C) is reaching out to anyone with hands-on farming experience who might be willing to visit our project near Siem Reap and share some practical advice.
We work with families on a gift-it-forward piglet model, helping them build sustainable livelihoods through small-scale animal husbandry. We've also got a large pilot garden up and running, and we'd love some expert eyes on it to help us get the most out of the space. The idea is to trial permaculture, companion planting and a biodigester here, then pass on what works to the families themselves.
If you've got experience in any of these areas, even a short visit and a chat could make a real difference:

Permaculture design and layout for larger plots
Companion planting for vegetable gardens
Biodigester setup and operation
General small-scale farming or animal husbandry advice

There's no formal commitment involved, just genuinely valuable knowledge that could help shape a model that benefits many families and the BFOK school community.

Digging of the pond was successful, the water level is building, we are now at 2m, and looking into options for our fish supply.

The team were busy repairing an old Ox cart.

And we have plenty of happy healthy pigs being cared for lovingly.

All in all, a wonderful day and week ☀️

🚜 Exciting times at the pig farm this week, especially for any fellow digger enthusiasts!

We've been working on the pond at the back of the property. It was already there, but would dry out completely during the dry season.

We've now deepened it by around 2 metres and hit the water table, so we're hoping it will hold water year-round. 🌱

We are hoping it will become home to fish, provide another food source for the community, and give visiting kids the chance to do a bit of fishing while they're here.

Another small step towards building a more sustainable future for the farm and the families we support. 🐖

An update from our breeding facility in Cambodia. 🐷

Our new large, safe and covered pig pen has been completed - just in time for the rainy season.

This upgrade means better shelter, safer conditions for the piglets, and a more secure environment for the continued growth of the program.

Every improvement like this helps strengthen the long-term sustainability of the program and supports healthier outcomes for both the animals and the families who rely on them.
