'WEM7 Foundation Opens Emergency Shelter for Refugees Affected by Thailand–Cambodia Border Dispute'
Banteaysrei Center Converted into Refugee Shelter, Providing Ongoing and Responsible Humanitarian Aid
The WEM7 Foundation, widely trusted in Cambodia for its diverse charitable initiatives and innovative donation models, has converted its Banteaysrei Center into an emergency refugee shelter to support families displaced by the territorial dispute along the Thailand–Cambodia border.
The foundation continues to provide sustained and practical humanitarian assistance, going beyond one-time relief efforts.
As armed conflict intensified and border residents were forced to flee their homes, WEM7 Foundation staff and volunteers have been visiting affected areas day and night, delivering long-term and responsible support.
Over the past two weeks, relief supplies have included rice, instant noodles, drinking water, bread, soy sauce, fish sauce, salt and sugar, along with new and donated clothing for all age groups, food packages, school supply kits, tents, farming vehicles, and tuk-tuk motorcycles—addressing refugees’ essential needs for food, clothing, and shelter.
Beyond material aid, WEM7 has focused on listening to the stories of displaced families and providing emotional and educational care for children through music, movement, and language-learning activities. These programs aim to help children who have been unable to attend school due to conflict and displacement heal emotionally, rediscover joy, and regain hope.
In recognition of these continuous and dedicated efforts, the WEM7 Foundation has received certificates of appreciation from local authorities in the Banteaysrei District and the Siem Reap Provincial Government.
Mr. Joseph Park, President of the WEM7 Foundation, stated:
“Many refugee families fled to relatively safer areas such as Siem Reap seeking security, but all they carried with them were fear, deep exhaustion, and a fragile hope. As a community founded on compassion and responsibility, we could not remain silent or simply watch human suffering from a distance.”
He added,
“The Banteaysrei Center, which has served underprivileged children since 2019, has now been transformed into a refugee shelter due to this conflict. We hope that, even temporarily, this place can provide peace and stability to those who stay here.”
Emphasizing that “donation is not the end, but the beginning,” Mr. Park appealed for continued support, saying,
“These are difficult times, but we sincerely ask for your solidarity. May our small acts of compassion become a light for those in darkness. We respectfully request the continuous support of Korean residents in Cambodia and people in Korea.”
For the past seven years, the WEM7 Foundation has carried out its humanitarian and mission work independently, without reliance on government funding or external aid. To date, it has distributed over 30 tons of rice and more than USD 200,000 worth of school supplies, computers, uniforms, and food. Through scholarships, schools, language institutes, education centers, churches, and cafés, WEM7 has created youth employment opportunities and reinvested all profits into community support, benefiting more than 1,200 children and youth across Cambodia.
