Through the AFK Farm project, AFK NGO is building a better foundation to drive itself to the meeting the objectives of the SAMRONG KITCHEN. The Angkor kids centre (AKC) is located in the Angkor Thom district of Cambodia where english is taught by local teachers and volunteers. ‘The AKC green project’ a new initiative being implemented at the centre. Benefiting not only the environment, community a
nd the sustainability of the land but educating the children of the importance and responsibility they have to protect the valuable environment they live in. Educating the children how to plant fruit trees and integrate crops, to combine agriculture and forestry technologies to create a more diverse productive, profitable, healthy sustainable land-use system. The benefits of trees are undeniable, not only do they absorb greenhouse gas emissions but they improve air quality, recycle water, create shade, provide food and homes for living things across the planet. The simple act of planting trees helps sustain our communities and the environment in countless ways. Deforestation is devastating Cambodia due to 90% of the population relying on the land for income. Agricultural methods are traditional, rice farming being the most common form. The conversion of forestland to farmland is having an enormous environmental impact. Agroforestry is essential and as a team here at AKC we are determined to create a sustainable environment for the children's future through interactive education. Our hope is to encourage the surrounding communities to get involved in the project and for the children of the AKC to inspire community action by helping one another plant and grow fruit trees for a sustainable future. This is the sense that AKC has set up this Green Project to be implemented. Read the entire project document @ http://issuu.com/angkorkidscenter/docs/theakcgreenproject
