This week at Dream Big Cambodia, we celebrated International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the strength, resilience, and potential of women and girls everywhere in the world 🌏

For us, this day is especially meaningful. Many of the girls in our community grow up facing challenges that can make education and opportunity harder to reach. But every day, we see their courage, determination, and dreams.

At Dream Big Cambodia, we believe that when a girl learns, a whole community grows stronger. Education gives girls the confidence to raise their voices, the tools to build their futures, and the power to inspire the next generation.

Some of the girls who once sat in our classrooms as shy students are now becoming role models for the younger ones, proof that dreams can grow when someone is given the chance.

We celebrate our girls, our female teachers, our volunteers, and every woman who continues to break barriers and lift others along the way.

To all the girls at Dream Big Cambodia: your voice matters, your dreams matter, and your future is bright. 💜

🧡 Some posts are extra special to write 🧡

Soknin has been with us since 2017. She was just a young student back then, a bit shy, always kind, always trying her best. We’ve watched her grow up inside these classrooms.

And now… she’s standing at the front of one.

Soknin is in her first year at University of South-East Asia, studying TESOL (teaching English), and during her busy exam season she’s also teaching our ABC1 class at Dream Big Cambodia, our tiniest students, the ones learning their very first ABCs.

Seeing her guide them so gently feels emotional in a way that’s hard to explain.

She’s still figuring out exactly what she wants her future to look like, and that’s completely okay. What matters is that she keeps showing up. She keeps learning. She keeps trying. And now, she’s giving back.

This is what community means to us.

Not just volunteers coming and going.
Not just lessons.
But young girls from our village growing into confident women who lead the next generation.

Today we celebrate Sokvat 🧡🎂
Not just because it’s her birthday, but because her story is everything Dream Big Cambodia stands for.

Sokvat first walked into our school in 2017 as a student, full of curiosity and quiet determination. Years later, she stands in front of the classroom as a local teacher, guiding the next generation with patience, kindness, and so much heart.

Watching her grow from a student into a role model for our younger learners is a dream come true for Dream Big Cambodia. Education doesn’t just open doors, it creates leaders, confidence, and futures rooted in giving back.

🧡 2016 wasn’t just a trend for us, it was the beginning of a dream 🚀✨

In 2016, Dream Big Cambodia was born, with a small classroom, big hearts, and an even bigger belief: that every child deserves access to education, opportunity, and hope.

These photos take us back to where it all started. No many students nor volunteers. No fancy resources. Just a small group of children eager to learn, a few volunteers full of passion, and a community believing in something bigger than themselves.

Almost a decade later, that same dream is still alive 🥰 growing stronger because of people like you, supporting all these years Dream Big Cambodia.

For almost 10 years, Dream Big Cambodia has been a small school with a big heart and big dreams. A place built by community, volunteers, and a shared belief that every child deserves a chance to learn for a better future.
No big sponsors. No government support. Just people like us, who care.

One year at the time, we fight so hard to keep this project alive. And if you wonder why? It's because kids with no English when they first joined, now speak a new language confidently. Former students who once dreamed of learning now teach the younger ones.
Lives have changed, and all of it was possible because someone, somewhere, believed in them.

💛 And this new year is especially meaningful, 2026 will be our 10th anniversary.
Ten years of resilience, love, and community coming together for one purpose: giving children in rural Cambodia a chance for a better future.

To step into that 10th year, we need your help.
Our annual fundraiser covers everything:

A letter to our incredible local teacher Rathanak 💛

She first walked into Dream Big as a shy student in 2017, and in 2020, during one of the hardest moments for us, when COVID closed borders and volunteers couldn’t come, she stepped up with and became a local teacher to keep supporting our students and Dream Big 🌱✨
Since 2021, she has been both a student in the advanced class and a teacher, learning from volunteers from all around the world and giving her heart to our kids every single day.

Last week was her last class with us (for now) 🥹
Letting her go after all these years wasn’t easy, but our sadness is mixed with a huge sense of pride. Watching her grow, believe in herself, dream bigger and now go off to university to become an English teacher, it’s everything Dream Big was created for 🎓💫

Rathanak, you will always have a home here.
You’ve given so much love, kindness and dedication to our students and our team. Thank you for every smile, every lesson, every moment 🫶

We love you, we will miss you tons and we’ll be cheering for you every step of the way.

Last month, Cambodia celebrated Pchum Ben (ពិធីភ្ជុំបិណ្ឌ) — one of the most spiritual and meaningful festivals in Khmer culture. 🇰🇭✨

This 15-day celebration honors the spirits of ancestors, ending with Ben Thom, a public holiday. During this time, it is believed that the spirits of loved ones return to the earthly world, especially those without living relatives to make offerings for them.

Families across the country visit pagodas to offer food, candles, flowers, and prayers — acts of love and gratitude that help their ancestors’ spirits find peace and gain merit. 💛

A beautiful reminder of the importance of family, respect, and spiritual connection across generations. 🙏
