🇺🇸 Cornell meets Cambodia 🇰🇭 : for the summer of 2026, CKS was delighted to host Iona and Nishant through the Cornell Global Internship Program. Iona joined our Library team, while Nishant supported Communications.

Last week, we bid them both a fond farewell.

This internship forms part of an ongoing partnership between CKS and Cornell University's Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies and Southeast Asia Program, offering students professional and cross-cultural experience in Cambodia while supporting CKS's work in research, education, and public engagement.

Calling all librarians, archivists, researchers, students, and cultural heritage professionals!

CKS presents its 2026 Annual Library Workshop, 'From Local Collections to Global Access: Collaboration, Preservation, and Innovation in Libraries and Archives,' on August 26-27 at the CKS Library in Wat Damnak, Siem Reap.

Led by regional and international experts 🇺🇸 🇸🇬 🇰🇭, the workshop covers digital preservation, resource sharing, research access, user-centered library services, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in libraries and archives.

Only Session 4 is open to the public, online: 'Building Digital Futures for Southeast Asian Collections,' presented by Emily Zinger, Southeast Asia Digital Librarian, Cornell University.

What does research look like when communities are recognized as partners and knowledge holders, rather than simply as subjects of study?

On August 17, 2026, CKS hosted the hybrid workshop “Collaborative Research in Prey Lang: Experiences, Methods, and Outputs,” bringing together Kuy community representatives, scholars, and student researchers to discuss collaborative approaches to knowledge production.

Led by Dr. Courtney Work of National Taiwan University, the workshop highlighted the important role of community knowledge in research on Prey Lang, one of Cambodia’s most important forest landscapes. Presentations explored Kuy oral histories, archaeological sites, wild plants and their uses, indigeneity, development, and community-based data collection. Discussions also considered how maps, story maps, and digital archives can support the preservation of collective knowledge and expand public access to research findings.

The workshop was supported by the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities and co-supported by the Australian Government through the Ponlok Chomnes II: Data and Dialogue for Development in Cambodia program.

🎓 Congratulations to the 2026 cohort of CKS Junior Resident Fellows! 🇰🇭🇫🇷🇺🇸

Fifteen fellows from Cambodia, France, and the US completed six weeks of coursework, field visits, mentorship, and independent research — concluding with two days of public presentations on August 12–13 at CKS Headquarters in Siem Reap. The cohort marked the milestone with a certificate ceremony, group photo, and a collective water blessing.

Congratulations to all the fellows, and thank you to the instructors, guest speakers, mentors, partner institutions, and members of the public who supported this year's program.

A wonderful start to the 2026 Junior Resident Fellows Public Presentations! This morning, our fellows presented their research under Theme I: Ethics, Icons, and Monastic Education, followed by lively Q&A with the audience.

Join us again this afternoon for Theme II: Identity and Resilience and Theme III: Post-Conflict Recovery, Aid Graduation, and Modern Urban Mobility, starting at 1:00 p.m. Cambodia time. Presentations continue tomorrow morning with more original research on Cambodia's past and present.
