Butterfly Educational Center in Cambodia, is an after school activity centre, providing FREE Classes to more than 120 children living at Wat Damnak Village, in Siem Reap. Children are welcome to learn English, Arts & Crafts, Drawing, Painting, Singing, Computer IT, Sewing and Khmer Traditional Dances. We encourage the children to be creative and enjoy their time learning new skills while they can
have some fun, too. Butterfly is a private initiative ran by a Portuguese female teacher, Ana Margarida Alberty, who has dedicated her time and money to give Cambodian children an opportunity to learn and be happy in a healthy environment. GIVE CHILDREN WINGS TO FLY is her slogan. The activities take place in the morning from 8:00am until 12:00am and from 2:00pm until 6:00pm, Saturdays and Sundays, too. All volunteers are most welcome to teach different subjects and can plan their time as wished. Ana Margarida Alberty is grateful to get regular feedback from the volunteers as she lives in Portugal most of the time. Butterfly has a permanent staff of Cambodian teachers but we really need a helping hand from foreign volunteers as a valid and important add up. Any suggestions on improvements or new activities are most appreciated. "Dreams can come true"... is our slogan both for the children and the volunteers who wish to join us! Volunteers can be a precious ad up, by teaching the children anything they know based on skills, knowledge and professional experience: Languages, Arts, Painting, Drawing, Recycling, Video, Movies, Photography, Internet, Gardening, Sports, Sewing, Crafts, Dancing, Singing, Performing Arts, Hygiene awareness, etc...anything, really, that improves the children's lives is most welcome. Volunteers can adapt their time to their needs and interests and choose how many hours per day they wish to teach. They can visit the temples and take trips around Siem Reap. It's good to rent a bicycle so they can easily go anywhere. There is a small Hotel near Butterfly Art Studio with a swimming-pool available, called Petit Villa Boutique & Spa. Osmose on the same street offers eco friendly tours in the country side or Prek Toal to visit the bird Sanctuary and the floating Villages. It is also possible to get to know the families around the center and help them in anything they need. That is one of our purposes, too. Volunteer work at the children's homes.There is always so much to do.
