Dear Friends/Colleagues/Past and Present Donors
Rick Wakeman a long term resident of Siem Reap is in urgent need of your help. Rick, together with his wife Naret, founded Ability Fair Trade Village (AFTV) and the Siem Reap Food Bank (SRFB). They are well-known in the local community and abroad for the work they do helping disadvantaged people.

Rick is seriously ill in an ICU ward in a Government Hospital in Phnom Penh and needs 24-hour monitoring for a life-threatening condition. Rick and Naret do not have sufficient funds to cover the medical treatment he needs to prevent his condition becoming fatal.

Rick and Naret have dedicated their lives to helping others. Now they urgently need others to help save Rick.

As we approach the end of the year, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our amazing supporters. Your generosity and assistance throughout 2024 have made an incredible impact on the lives of people in need of food security, and we could not have done it without you.

The Right to Adequate Food is the human right of people to feed themselves with dignity. Yet thousands of families in Siem Reap Province are hungry, malnourished and food insecure. Cambodia, along with more than 170 other countries have ratified this right. And the Cambodian government now has a plan to create a sustainable food system throughout the Kingdom by 2030. The Cambodian government (across all levels), aid organizations, many NGO’s, businesses, and individuals, locally and internationally, are committing time and resources to sustain people in need and at the same time developing sustainable solutions to the problem of hunger.

We thank our international champions for donating funds and/or their time and expertise. We thank our local champions for volunteering their services and time to help us facilitate important partnerships for our startup projects or assisting with administration tasks. We also thank our local and international business champions for their collaboration and support. Last, but not least, we thank Naret, our Director, for her leadership, passion and endless energy!

Thank you all for being part of our quest to provide better food security for hungry families. Together we are making a difference. Please join us - https://siemreapfoodbank.org/get-involved

Best wishes for a very safe and happy festive season and we look forward to connecting with you again in 2025!

A very big thank you to Brad, from the USA, for his generous donation! Funds donated to the SRFB not only help feed hungry families, they also assist them to access appropriate healthcare, and learn more about healthier eating.

The SRFB will help any family who is genuinely in need of food support, whether their situation is temporary or long term, providing there are funds available. Through recent survey's conducted within Kampong Khleang Commune, (an AFTV/GEI Partnership project), we have identified a number of new families who have family members, children in particular, who are suffering from malnutrition and need our assistance.

If you live in, or are travelling to Siem Reap and have used clothes you no longer need, please consider donating them to this worthy cause. There are many disadvantaged Mother like Akha who would appreciate a helping hand.

Attention: Siem Reap Locals, Expats & Visitors
Akha, a young Cambodian woman, is due to give birth very soon and she needs your help. Akha used to earn a small income selling balloons, but as a single mother-to-be she is now unable to work. She has no family support and is currently sleeping on the floor in a friend’s home.

If you have any used baby clothes or washable nappies (diapers) that you no longer need, please consider donating them to our urgent clothing appeal. Drop off details & times in the image below. Our sincere thanks to Tevy's Place for volunteering their premises as the Drop off location. Tevy is a role model of courage and leadership, who empowers her female employees and supports their education and medical care.

As a community working together, we have the power to change people’s lives. By donating clothes and/or nappies you can help Akha care for her baby.

Building in progress! A big thank you to Tess from Australia for funding this major renovation for MaiLin and her family. Essentially a complete rebuild....

The builder has been working very quickly, but there was a small delay awaiting an inspection and approval from Aspara and the local Commune office. Approval has been granted and we expect the house to be finished in about 10days.

More photos/videos coming soon... to show how the build progresses!

Extreme Poverty and Hunger are a Real Danger in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

No Income, No Food - Siem Reap, Cambodia

Naret Chhoy, is a jewellery and clothing designer “Director and Trustee” at Genevieve’s Fair Trade Village in Siem Reap. The shop supports and celebrates the work of people and artists living with disabilities. Having lost her job with the closure of the shop since the outbreak of the pandemic, this incredible and inspiring woman, with her own disability, is devoting her time and amazing efforts to help some of the most vulnerable people in the community. Please, watch the very short video produced by Maggie Padlewska as it captures the essence of Naret and her dedication to helping these families in need. This inspiring video provides a brief insight into the tragic reality for so many families that is unfolding in the Siem Reap province.
