What does it cost to speak freely in 2026?

For too many writers around the world, the answer is prison, exile, censorship or violence.

Writers Under Siege: Defying Silence – PEN International Case List 2026 documents the persecution of writers and journalists across every region of the world, but it also tells a story of resistance and international solidarity.

Read the full Case List, and amplify the voices that governments want to silence.

The Cambodian American Literary Arts Association is proud to uplift poets in our community and partner with Clemente Park Committee to present original poetry on the Khmer New Year stage πŸ“š

Please join us on Saturday April 18, 2026 for the 16th Khmer New Year at Roberto Clemente Park (Pailin Park) to see Lina Chap share her poem and to celebrate Year of the Horse 🐴

About Lina
I was born and raised in Kampot, Cambodia. I came to U.S at the age of 21 with very little or no English background. I am a self-taught English learner. I am a mother of two children, my son is 21 years old and currently studying at MIT, junior year. My daughter is 18 years old, senior year, high school, Innovation Chater Academy, Tyngsboro.
I am currently working in pharmaceutical company (Brystole Myers Squibb). My role is Quality Control Microbiology Specialist.
I hold an associate degree of Medical Laboratory Technology from Middlesex Community College. I joined the Devens Cell Therapy QC Microbiology team in December 2021 as a contractor, quickly establishing myself as an integral member of the team. Prior to BMS, I worked at Azonix Corporation for more than 12 years, working on integration to testing computer systems such as oil drilling and oil finding systems, and defense products for the U.S. Navy. I also worked as an intern at Lowell General Hospital as a medical lab technician for 2 years and did a blood bank practicum at Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill, MA.
Outside of work, I like to travel and get inspiration to write poems. Writing poems is my hobby. My poems are about bitter/sweet of life experiences, resilience, strength, stillness, silence, women empower to independently pursue their career.
