🌍💧 Sharing lessons on locally-led climate action

CARE Cambodia today joined more than 150 government representatives, civil society organizations, and community representatives at a Learning Event on Locally-Led Systems Strengthening in Khsach Kandal District, Kandal Province, organized as part of the Agenda for Change Cambodia collaboration.

Representing CARE Cambodia, Mr. Phoeurn Sokchan, Interim Country Program Representative, shared experiences from MekongElevate during a session on locally-led climate-resilient initiatives by Indigenous communities.

“MekongElevate is built on a simple but powerful idea. When ethnic minority women, youth, and people with disabilities are equipped with the knowledge, platforms and leadership space to lead climate action themselves, entire communities become more resilient.”

The exchange highlighted the importance of recognizing and strengthening the knowledge, leadership and systems that already exist within communities, and creating more inclusive opportunities for people to lead climate action themselves.

The Women's Media Centre of Cambodia (WMC), in collaboration with CARE Cambodia, delivered a three-day training from 18-20 August 2026 on Media Literacy and Fundamentals of News Article Writing for 30 participants in Ratanakiri Province, including 24 women.

Participants included ethnic minority youth, youth from the Volunteer for My Community (VMC) program, and three high school principals. Through practical sessions on media literacy, news writing, photography, and video production, participants strengthened their skills to document community stories, communicate local issues, and engage audiences through different media platforms.

As part of the MekongElevate project, the training contributes to strengthening the leadership and advocacy capacity of ethnic minority women and youth, enabling them to amplify community voices and participate more meaningfully in discussions and decision-making related to climate resilience and sustainable community development.

By enhancing storytelling and media engagement skills, participants are better equipped to share local experiences, challenges, and solutions related to climate change within their communities.

MekongElevate is funded by the Australian Government through the Mekong-Australia Partnership and implemented by CARE in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

Reflecting on the journey, learning together, and adapting for what comes next. 🌱

CARE Cambodia, in partnership with GIZ Cambodia, yesterday brought together partners, worker representatives, civil society organizations, government stakeholders, and development partners to reflect on their first-year journey toward advancing inclusive and decent work in Cambodia’s garment and textile sector.

The workshop created space to celebrate achievements, learn from experiences, and look ahead. Participants explored the project’s journey through the “River of Change” reflection exercise, learned from CARE Bangladesh’s experience in advocating for the ratification of ILO Convention 190, and worked together to identify priorities and adaptive actions for Year 2.

Through the Successes, Aspirations and Adaptations (SAA) discussions, participants shared what has worked, what they aspire to achieve, and how they can adapt their approach to strengthen impact in the year ahead.

The reflection highlighted the importance of partnership, collective learning, and adapting along the way to strengthen our efforts to advance workers’ rights and well-being, particularly for women workers, across Cambodia’s garment and textile sector.

Sharing knowledge, fostering connections, and bringing smiles to the community.

The WE Network held its Community-Based Event on 16 August 2026 in Phnom Penh, engaging local people and authorities, and representatives from partner organisations.

Through interactive activities and community dialogue, participants explored practical topics including Gender-Based Violence and Harassment (GBVH) prevention, financial literacy, digital stress management, and physical wellness through yoga.

The proactive participation from communities and stakeholders highlights the importance of working together to promote safe, inclusive, and supportive environments where individuals, especially women, can make informed decisions, access information, and contribute to positive change in their families and communities.

The 3rd series of Community-Based Events is co-organised by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the WE Network, with support from the German Government and implementing partners, including GIZ Cambodia, CARE Cambodia, Cambodian Women for Peace and Development (CWPD), Legal Support for Children and Women (LSCW) and mobile application GBV Safe App.
