Over 40 coastal nations—including Cambodia—have since formally endorsed the initiative and committed to its 2030 targets of Mangrove Breakthrough officially launched at UNFCCC CoP27.

Core 2030 Goals:
***Reduce avoidable mangrove loss from
direct human activities to zero
***Restore at least 50% of recently lost
mangrove areas
***Increase long-term protection from 40% to 80%
of remaining mangroves
*** Mobilize sustainable finance to support the
protection, restoration, and stewardship of
existing mangrove ecosystems

Happy World Mangrove Day 2026!!

Mangroves store up to six times more carbon than the equivalent area of Amazonian rainforest. They protect coastlines from storms, sustain fish populations, and underpin the food security and livelihoods of millions of coastal families.

Yet the global rate of mangrove loss is 3 to 5 times greater than for any other forest type, and at least a quarter of the world's original cover has already gone.

What makes the difference is not the technology or the policy framework alone, it’s communities having the legal rights, reliable data, and long-term support to lead. When those conditions are in place, recovery follows.
