Our mission is to advance young women leaders in Southeast Asia with education, training and a supportive network.

Harpswell is a US-based 501c3 tax-exempt organization, classified by the IRS as a private operating foundation. Harpswell is completely supported by donations from individuals, foundations and corporations. Harpswell is also a registered non-governmental organization in Cambodia, and is party to two Memoranda of Understanding with the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia and with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Investment in the advancement of women and girls is widely recognized as imperative to sustainable growth. Harpswell believes that by supporting, inspiring, and educating the brightest young women with leadership potential, these women will go on to transform their communities through their work and example. It is our hope that this supportive network of leaders will eventually address some of the root causes of social inequality by transforming systems, attitudes, and social norms. They will support each other and their communities in creating economic advancement, as well as positive social change.

Prumsodun Ok, Founder and Artistic Director of Prumsodun Ok & NATYARASA Dance Company, joined Harpswell at our Phnom Penh leadership centre for our Class of 2026’s graduation this past July.

Reflecting on the event, Prum shared: “You can see how beautifully and elegantly they’re building community, and they’re building a way forward for Cambodia.”

We are grateful to welcome Prum into our growing Friends of Harpswell community, and look forward to collaborating in the near future!

Harpswell’s Phnom Penh Leadership Centres welcomed Chiranthi Senanayake as our Expert in Residence this past month!

Chiranthi led a mini-workshop series for our Cambodian Women’s Leadership students exploring the connection between Buddhism and sustainable development. To make real-world connections, students watched The Cup (Phörpa).

Together, our students reflected on what a sustainable future means to them and their communities, as well as their own role as young women leaders to advocate for such a future 🌎

🌱 We're thrilled to be partnering with ReMade In Cambodia , a youth-led collective of young Khmer designers who engage with local designers and artisans to turn textile waste into clothes people actually want to keep.

At IKAT 2026, ReMade in Cambodia will bring a full runway of upcycled Khmer design to the gala floor, featuring Harpswell student volunteers walking to showcase the power of arts and sustainability. It is proof that Cambodian creativity can turn what was thrown away into something worth wearing.

💡 We're excited to launch the Harpswell Mentorship Program, welcoming 21 pairs of mentees and mentors to our very first cohort! 🌱

This program provides a safe space to learn, strengthen leadership skills, and nurture a lasting supportive network. With mentors from various parts of the world (Australia, Mongolia, the Philippines, and US to name a few), mentorship sessions will run virtually through February 2027.

We’re deeply grateful to our mentors and mentees for their time and contribution. Looking forward to the conversations, connections, and growth ahead!

A Leadership Resident (LR) experiences so much more than just teaching and mentoring 📚

An LR's journey goes beyond the classroom walls, becoming a part of the Harpswell community and immersing in Khmer culture by living and learning alongside the students and alumnae in Harpswell's Phnom Penh leadership centers.

It's an opportunity to give to the community while also learning from them, a chance to grow not only professionally but also personally.
