Sacrifice Families and Orphans Development Association (SFODA) is a local Cambodian Non-Governmental Organization situated in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The organization was founded in 1997 by Mr. Pen Sophan, the Executive Director of SFODA, as a reaction to the poor state of post-war Cambodia. The organization opened a Care Center to help orphans and vulnerable children. In 2008 Cambodia still suffers
from many great problems, among them drug use, poverty and a HIV/AIDS epidemic. 35% of the Cambodian population is living beneath the poverty line (according to United Nations in Cambodia). Cambodia is also the Asian country with the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS among its population, 0,9% (compared to West Europe 0,3% and Southern Africa 5,0%). This creates an environment which allows other problems to develop and flourish, such as prostitution and child labor. In order to respond to the situation, SFODA has expanded to consist of four parts: Care Center, Integrated Care Support and Prevention Program and HIV/AIDS related with Drugs Program and HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care For Vietnamese Entertainment Workers: The SMARTgirl Program. SFODA is continuously developing from our past achievements, in order to respond to the problems targeted as efficient and powerful as possible. SFODA is working in close collaboration with several Cambodian and international stakeholders. SFODA enjoys the support of All Japan Karate-do Federation, CED (Cambodge Enfance Developpement), JVC Kyushu network, USAID and Global Fund Round 7 through KHANA (Khmer HIV/AIDS NGO Alliance), and VN USAID through Family Health International (FHI)
SFODA is a non-political, non-religious and non-ethnical organization.
