“I no longer feel troubled since I started working.”
The Khmer Rouge regime caused suffering and hardship that still affects us today. When we came through that period and survived it, we finally felt some relief. Whenever I think about those experiences, I feel like I am stuck in them. But when the team from your organization came and helped me, I was able to forget about them. I am happy because your organization helped me - happy, very happy.

រាជធានីភ្នំពេញ (១-៥ មិថុនា ២០២៦)៖ កាលពីសប្តាហ៍មុន តំណាងអ្នករស់រានមានជីវិតពីរបបខ្មែរក្រហមចំនួនបីនាក់ មកពីខេត្តកំពត បានចូលរួមយ៉ាងសកម្មក្នុងវគ្គបណ្តុះបណ្តាលរយៈពេលប្រាំថ្ងៃ ស្តីពីការកៀរគរការគាំទ្រធនធាន ដែលរៀបចំដោយវិទ្យាស្ថានតសូ៊មតិ និងគោលនយោបាយ នៅរាជធានីភ្នំពេញ។ ការចូលរួមរបស់អ្នករស់រានមានជីវិតក្នុងវគ្គបណ្តុះបណ្តាលនេះ គឺជាផ្នែកមួយនៃគម្រោង “វិធានការសំណងក្រៅប្រព័ន្ធតុលាការ” ដែលចូលរួមចំណែកជួយពង្រឹងសមត្ថភាពក្នុងកំណត់បញ្ហា និងដំដោះស្រាយ ព្រមទាំងស្វែងរកការគាំទ្រពីភាគីពាក់ព័ន្ធ។

Phnom Penh (1-5 June 2026) Last week, three representatives of Khmer Rouge survivors from Kampot province actively participated in a five-day training on mobilizing support organized by the Advocacy and Policy Institute (API) in Phnom Penh. The participation of survivors with this training is a part of project “Interim Reparative Measures” (IRM ) strengthening their capacity in identifying problems and solutions as well as mobilizing support from stakeholders.

Please note that IRM project focuses on the survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) under the Khmer Rouge regime. This project is being co-implemented by Kdei Karuna Organization and TPO Cambodia with financial support from Global Survivors Fund.

ចំពោះខ្ញុំ ការនិយាយអំពីរបបខ្មែរក្រហម នាំមកនូវការចងចាំដ៏ឈឺចាប់ និងការប៉ះទង្គិចផ្លូវចិត្តពីអតីតកាល។ ក្នុងរបបនេះ ខ្ញុំត្រូវបង្ខំឲ្យរៀបការជាមួយបុរសដែលខ្ញុំមិនស្រឡាញ់។ ខ្ញុំគ្មានជម្រើសអ្វីក្រៅពីគោរពតាមបញ្ជារបស់មេកង ដើម្បីរស់រានមានជីវិតនោះទេ។ ខ្ញុំមានអារម្មណ៍ខ្មាស់អៀន ហើយរក្សាភាពស្ងាត់ស្ងៀមអស់រយៈពេលជាច្រើនឆ្នាំ ដោយលាក់បាំងការឈឺចាប់របស់ខ្ញុំយ៉ាងជ្រៅនៅខាងក្នុង។

“I no longer experience financial difficulties.”

For me, talking about the Khmer Rouge regime brings back painful memories and past trauma. Under the regime, I was forced to marry a man I did not love. I had no choice but to obey the orders of the unit chief in order to survive. I felt ashamed and remained silent for many years, hiding my pain deep inside.

Everything began to change when I joined the Interim Reparative Measures (IRM) project implemented by Kdei Karuna Organization (KdK) and TPO Cambodia.
The IRM project not only helped me address the emotional suffering I had carried for so long alongside other survivors, but also gave me an opportunity to rebuild my livelihood. With the financial reparation support I received, I was able to start a small business that suits my situation and helps me become more independent.

Today, I no longer experience the same financial difficulties. I can meet my daily needs and look toward the future with greater dignity and hope.

In Cambodia, 20 May marks the annual National Day of Remembrance, honoring the victims and remembering the suffering caused by crimes committed during the Democratic Kampuchea regime from 17 April 1975 to 6 January 1979.
This day aims to commemorate and pay tribute to the victims, restore the honor and dignity of survivors, and help address the psychological and social suffering experienced by survivors and their families.

On this occasion, three survivors of the Khmer Rouge regime share their reflections, memories, and experiences.

These stories contribute to peacebuilding and reconciliation, while helping prevent violence and injustice from recurring in future generations.

Specifically, I will work with team members to develop the 2026 activity plan, with support from local facilitators.”, Ms. Samnang Sopheap, a youth club leader from Samlot district in Battambang province, expressed this during the project orientation for 'Promoting Gender Justice through Learning, Skill Sharing, and Practice'.
It should be noted that this project is currently being implemented in four communities/provinces—Kep, Kampot, Battambang, and Oddar Meanchey—with the support of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Cambodia.
