Planète Enfants & Développement (PE&D) was created through the merge (in 2016) of two associations: Planète Enfants, founded in 1992 and Enfants & Développement, founded in 1984 in Cambodia. It is an international NGO, apolitical and non-denominational, entirely devoted to provide to vulnerable children the necessary conditions for their well-being and development. PE&D is committed to work in collaboration with beneficiaries and local actors and improve their capacities rather than assist them.

Strengthening Family and Children’s Facilitation and Project Management Skills in Via Familiis project📝

Apprentis d'Auteuil, with the support of Planète Enfants & Développement, recently organized a two-week training and learning workshop in Siem Reap Province for the partner, Women's Resource Center.

The training covered
- family and children’s facilitation
- data collection
-...and other skills to strengthen knowledges, skills, and competencies to actively participate in the Participatory Action Research (PAR) and improve facilitation among the project activities.

This also provided an opportunity for the teams to learn together and identify the research questions they aim to explore to better understand the effectiveness of the prioritized approaches within the House of Families🏠.

កាលពីសប្តាហ៍មុន នៅក្នុងសហគមន៍ “សែនសប្បាយ” អង្គការ Planète Enfants & Développement (PE&D) បានចែកជូននូវឧបករណ៍ពន្លត់អគ្គិភ័យ ដែលជាសមិទ្ធផលនៃកិច្ចខិតខំប្រឹងប្រែងរបស់ក្រុម PASSA (វិធីសាស្ត្របែបចូលរួម ដើម្បីលើកកម្ពស់ការយល់ដឹងអំពីជម្រកសុវត្ថិភាព)។

Last week, within Sen Sabay community, Planète Enfants & Développement distributed fire extinguishers as a result of the hard work of the PASSA group (Participatory Approach for Safe Shelter Awareness).

As part of the training provided to the PASSA group, members receive support to set up a micro-project that benefits their community, with their own ownership. In Sen Sabay, a community that has been severely affected by fires in the past, PASSA members decided to install one fire extinguisher for every two homes, this way ensuring a safer community and greater peace of mind for residents. The action was supported by PE&D as part of the . The PASSA leader also delivered a training on how to use the fire extinguishers for safer and more efficient use.

Meet the team ➡️ Léonie

Léonie is the project officer on , coming straight from France to join the team for a full year.

Of all the places she could have gone, why did she choose Cambodia🇰🇭? It all goes back to her teenage years: her older sister had lived in Phnom Penh for a while and told her stories about the country, which made her want to explore it for herself. That’s why she chose to come here and work with Planète Enfants & Développement, an organization whose values regarding inclusion align with her own. Here, she cherishes the moments shared with her colleagues and finds joy in cultural exchanges and the beauty of Cambodian culture, where she felt instantly welcomed with open arms.

Her most memorable experience? When she visited the project in Vietnam🇻🇳 and was able to see the impact of her work on families, witnessing how the family development methodology and the work of social workers could help a grandmother in need by giving her the tools to take better care of her 2- and 3-year-old grandchildren🫶.

When she is not working, Léonie is always doing sports or meeting with friends. She loves meeting new people, which she gets to do through her hobbies (yoga🧘‍♀️, running🏃‍♀, bouldering🧗…) and to explore Cambodia🗺.

នេះគឺជាឱកាសដ៏ល្អបំផុតដើម្បីលើកកម្ពស់ការងាររបស់គ្រូបង្រៀន ដែលតែងតែលើកទឹកចិត្តកុមារតូចៗ ឲ្យស៊ាំំជាមួយសៀវភៅ ដើម្បីត្រៀមពួកគាត់ឲ្យរៀនអាន។ នេះជាចំណុចដ៏សំខាន់មួយសម្រាប់ការអភិវឌ្ឍភាសា ពាក្យពេចន៍ និងចំណេះដឹងទូទៅរបស់កុមារ។ សូម្បីតែនៅក្នុងទារកដ្ឋាន គឺវាមិនដែលលឿនពេកនោះទេក្នុងការអានរឿងឱ្យកុមារស្ដាប់ ឬផ្តល់សៀវភៅដែលសមស្របនឹងអាយុ និងកម្រិតរបស់ពួកគេ 👩‍🏫👧👦.

This is the perfect opportunity to highlight the work of teachers who constantly encourage preschoolers to become familiar with books, thereby preparing them for reading, which is essential for developing their language skills, vocabulary, and general knowledge. 💡 Even in daycare, it’s never too early to read stories to children or to offer them books that are appropriate for their age and skill level 👩‍🏫👧👦.

Do you know what "fine motor skill" is? 🖍️✂

Fine motor skill is the coordination of small muscle involved in the synchronization of hands, fingers and eyes and requiered to do small and precise movements. ✋☝️👀
➡️For example: pinching fingers to pick up a small object, cutting a shape with scissors, drawing a line or circle, holding a pen and writing...

💡Each child is different and follow their own rhythm but at around 6 months, babies begin to grasp objects with their hands. By 9 months, the baby is able to use the thumb-index grasp, and it's not until the age of 2-4 years that children will use one of their hands to manipulate objects.

At CBCC Daycare, children are encouraged to develop these skills to develop self-confidence and autonomy🫶

Child Sage Agents - in Poi Pet and all over Cambodia 🫂.
The ChildSafe Movement actively protects children all around the world by training all types of actors in the community on child protection. The agents are equiped with tips on how to protect children in their neighborhood, at work and when they travel and are informed on where to get help.

As part of the PE&D trained more than 100 agents in the past and will continue doing so in the future, working with its partner Damnok Toek Organization and in close collaboration with Friends-International.

Last week, our team of supervisors visited Kirirom Food Production KFP Co., and their daycare team, supporting experienced staff and training new hires.

Between practical activites, role plays, lessons on child wellbeing or safe practices and group work on setting up play areas, those were three very busy days.

In the end, 10 daycare staff are now fully prepared and confident to take care of the beloved babies of the factory 🫶👶

Meet the team ➡️ Maryna

Maryna is part of the extended family of Planète Enfants & Développement as she works with our partner Apprentis d’Auteuil but is based in PE&D’s office in Phnom Penh. After 6 years working in the NGOs sector, she is now the coordinator of Via Famillis project, covering Cambodia and the Philippines, a position that is all about building trust between partners for an optimal implementation of the activities🤝.

Maryna already worked in a little bit of everything (youth empowerment, disaster-readiness and climate change, housing, agriculture resilience…) and she is now focusing on family protection through Via Familis’ program🫂. One common thread : always giving back to the community. Because that’s what is most important for her: empowering the communities, improving their knowledge and skills so they can access the rights and services they are due.

A memory that makes her happy? When she travelled to the Philippines, she saw the “parents champions”; these volunteers who give their time to support families, giving back to the others the support they once received and showing that, at their level, everyone can contribute👏👏.
