🌿🗺️ Community Natural Resource Mapping and Verification

On 12 September in Mondulkiri Province, CEDT met with representatives from Indigenous communities for a second review and verification of the community draft natural resource map and information collected by the communities.

The process provided an opportunity for community representatives to review the mapped information, clarify details, and help ensure that the information is clearly documented and reflects what has been collected by the communities. 🤝🌱

This is an important step in strengthening community documentation and community participation in the mapping process. The information provides basic information at the community level, which can help communities and relevant stakeholders better understand the information and provide a basis for future discussion and engagement.

For CEDT, participatory mapping supports communities to take an active role in collecting, reviewing, and verifying information, while helping to make the information more accessible for future discussion among communities and relevant stakeholders.

Today, we join the world in celebrating and honouring Indigenous women and girls around the world, recognizing their important roles and contributions to their families and communities, as well as to the preservation of culture, traditional knowledge, and natural resources. 💚

For generations, Indigenous women have played an important role in preserving and passing on knowledge, traditions, and skills that are an essential part of their communities’ identity and way of life. This knowledge is passed on to children and younger generations, helping to keep Indigenous cultures and traditions alive. 🌱

In the Indigenous communities where CEDT works, women and girls also play an important role in maintaining knowledge about natural resources and community livelihoods. For example, women’s knowledge and experience in harvesting and using Slek Phyp demonstrate the close connection between livelihoods, culture, and the natural resources of their communities. 🌿

This knowledge and experience have made important contributions to promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, as well as the care and protection of forests, which provide livelihoods and are an important part of community culture, for both present and future generations. 🌳💚

CEDT recently conducted a Community Participatory Pre-Assessment of Slek Phyap Areas and Livelihoods with Bunong Indigenous Communities in Dak Dam and Busra communes, Mondulkiri Province, as part of our partnership with Samdhana​័​័and Open Development Cambodia (ODC).

Through participatory discussions, storytelling, community mapping, and field visits, we listened to community members, elders, spiritual leaders, women, and youth to better understand the current situation and importance of the Slek Phyap areas.
The assessment provided an important opportunity for community members to share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on community livelihoods, traditional knowledge, cultural values, harvesting practices, natural resource management, and community participation.

We also learned more about the importance of the Slek Phyap areas to community livelihoods, traditional knowledge, culture, and identity, as well as the challenges and needs for strengthening community participation in the sustainable management and protection of natural resources.

This assessment was not only about collecting information. It was also an opportunity to listen to community voices and learn from their knowledge and experiences, helping us better understand their priorities and how future support can build on existing community strengths and local knowledge.

Together, we hope to contribute to stronger community participation, intergenerational knowledge sharing, youth and women’s engagement, community-based forest monitoring, and community-led action to support sustainable natural resource management and community livelihoods. 🌱

On June 12, 2026, the Community Empowerment and Development Team (CEDT) organized a Micro-Business Materials Handover Ceremony to promote women's empowerment and gender equality under the Housing and Living Conditions Improvement Project (HALI Phase III). A total of 20 participants attended the event, including 19 women. Participants included representatives from the Sangkat Office, village authorities, community leaders, 11 beneficiaries, and partners from the HALI Project (Planète Enfants & Développement Cambodia) and Samatapheap Khnom Organization (SKO).

This event marked a meaningful milestone for the micro-business beneficiaries. Through the distribution of business materials and equipment, beneficiaries will be able to start new businesses or expand their existing businesses, helping to increase their income and improve their families’ living conditions.

With the strong support and cooperation of local authorities and partnership with Planète Enfants & Développement Cambodia, the event was conducted smoothly and saw active participation from all stakeholders. This collaboration contributed to strengthening community engagement and enhancing the economic well-being of beneficiary families.

តាមរយៈកម្មវិធីនេះ បានឆ្លុះបញ្ជាំងពីភាពផ្លាស់ប្រែជាវិជ្ជមានគួរអោយកត់សំគាល់បន្ទាប់ពីការគាំទ្រ រហូតដល់ថ្ងៃបញ្ចប់ការគាំទ្រនេះ ទាំងអ្នកទទួលផលអាជីវកម្មខ្នាតតូចបានជួយអោយពួកគាត់អាចបង្កើនប្រាក់ចំណូលលើកកម្ពស់ជីវភាពរស់នៅនឹងមានលទ្ធភាពក្នុងការសន្សំប្រាក់សម្រាប់គោលបំណងនាពេលបច្ចុប្បន្ន និងអនាគត មួយវិញទៀតចំពោះក្រុមសន្សំប្រាក់វិញឃើញថាក្រុមសន្សំប្រាក់អាចបន្តគ្រប់គ្រងដំណើរការក្រុមសន្សំ ដោយដឹកនាំដោយគណៈកម្មការក្រុមសន្សំ ដែរអាចសមបញ្ជាក់អោយឃើញពីសមត្ថភាពរបស់ស្ត្រីក្នុងការគ្រប់គ្រងហិរញ្ញវត្ថុ និងស្ថានភាពរស់នៅកាន់តែប្រសើរជាបន្តបន្ទាប់ ។

On May 28, 2023, the Community Empowerment and Development Team (CEDT) organized a Reflecting on Progress: Empowering Women and Promoting Gender Equality under the HOUSING AND LIVING CONDITION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (HALI PHASE III). The event was held at Khmounh commune hall, Sangkat Khmounh, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh and brought together 31 participants.
The program is intended to

- Reflecting on the progress and results of project implementation—particularly the activities undertaken to compile and strengthen community savings groups, as well as to support small business packages for all 20 target members of the community
- Demonstrate the achievements and positive changes resulting from one year of project support through presentations and shared videos.

- Provide a platform for savings team members and beneficiaries of small businesses to share their experiences, challenges, and successes in strengthening family livelihoods and contributing to community development

Through the program, significant positive changes were observed among beneficiaries as a result of the support provided throughout the project period. Both small-business beneficiaries were able to increase their livelihood promotion income and build the capacity to save money for both current and future needs. Meanwhile, the savings group continued to manage the savings group processes, led by the Savings Group Committee. The program also highlights, this is also reflected in women’s improved ability to manage their finances and household circumstances, leading to continuous improvement.
