Krousar Thmey Foundation First Cambodian aid foundation for underprivileged children / Première fondation cambodgienne d'aide à l'enfance défavorisée

Krousar Thmey ("New Family" in Khmer) began life in the refugee camps in Thailand in 1991, and is the first Cambodian aid foundation for underpriviledged children. It is apolitical and non-denominational. Currently operating in 14 provinces, Krousar Thmey is run by Cambodians, for Cambodians. Our three programs:
- Education for Blind or Deaf Children: the only comprehensive education system for th

e Blinds and the Deaf in Cambodia, key to their integration;
- Child Welfare: protection centers and family houses for abandoned children, orphans, street children and victims of human trafficking, with respect of each and everyone's identity;
- Cultural and Artistic Development: school of arts and access to an artistic activity, to enable every child to appropriate their cultural heritage and develop creativity and self-confidence.

Krousar Thmey (“Nouvelle Famille” en khmer) est née dans les camps de réfugiés en Thaïlande en 1991. Elle est la première fondation cambodgienne d’aide à l’enfance défavorisée, apolitique et non-confessionnelle. Actuellement présente dans 14 provinces, ses actions sont menés par des Cambodgiens, pour les Cambodgiens. Nos trois programmes :
- Education pour enfants aveugles ou sourds : le seul programme d'éducation complet pour les aveugles et sourds au Cambodge, clé à leur intégration;
- Protection de l'enfance : centres de protection et maisons familiales pour enfants abandonnés, orphelins, enfants des rues et victimes de trafic humain, respectant l'identité de chacun;
- Développement artistique et culturel : école d'art et accès à une activité artistique, afin de permettre à chaque enfant de s'approprier son héritage culturel et de développer sa créativité et sa confiance en soi.

World Day Against Child Labour reminds us that a child’s right to education, and their right to remain in school, without any subject to labor, is inscribed under the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. Today, we stand with children everywhere to fight for their rights to education, their rights to protection, and their rights to be in a loving family. At Krousar Thmey, we believe that no child should ever be forced to choose between their education and their family's financial well-being. To advance this mission, Krousar Thmey aimed to cultivate careful conversations with children’s parents while providing family-housing units and education for underprivileged children in Cambodia.

Almost 1 in every 2 children is categorized by UNICEF as multidimensionally poor. To address this problem, Krousar Thmey consistently aims to raise funds that could support families and the education of many children throughout Cambodia. Besides this, we have protection centers in 3 main provinces of Cambodia, including Poipet, Phnom Penh, and Siem Reap, to support children who have suffered severe poverty, domestic violence, and other forms of violence.
