NL Eats

NL Eats NL Eats is a canadian national charity driving agritech innovation and sustainable community building. ♻️

NL Eats strives to bring all foodies of Newfoundland and Labrador together under one group, all while making a massive difference in the St. John's metro area (and hopefully beyond). While this Facebook group only started as a place for people to express their feelings about the meal they just had, we saw that at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that there were many people who were not able to g

et the essentials they need, so we knew it was our time to step up and implement our project . We knew that a traditional foodbank wouldn't cut it in the age of COVID-19, so we decided that the foodbank should be 100% mobile and have no need for large gatherings at the foodbank headquarters. We do this by getting into contact with those in need, we find out what they require, and then we send out one of our many dedicated volunteers to deliver the hamper right to their front door. Now, we are working towards being creators of networks of projects that will address food insecurity. We want to inspire people to help and to ask for help. Today, on International Women’s Day, we want to recognize the women who make the work of NL Eats possible every day.

NL Eats is proud to be a women-founded and women-led organization, but our impact comes from the incredible women across our entire community.

The women volunteers who give their time to support our programs.

The women farmers and producers working to strengthen local food systems.

The students and young innovators exploring new ideas for the future of food.

The community leaders, partners, and mentors who continue to guide and support our work.

Across farms, kitchens, classrooms, and communities, women are playing a critical role in shaping a more resilient and inclusive food system.

Today is a moment to recognize that leadership, commitment, and care — and to say thank you to the many women who help make this work possible.

Happy International Women’s Day.

🚀 Big news for our community.

In partnership and with the generous support of Right to Food, we are bringing the FOODFit Program to NL Eats.

FOODFit is a community-based program designed to strengthen food literacy, nutrition confidence, and practical life skills. It focuses on helping individuals and families build healthier relationships with food through hands-on learning, culturally inclusive approaches, and accessible education rooted in dignity and empowerment.

Our first cohort will officially launch in Fall 2026.

Over the coming months, our team will be training and onboarding with the Right to Food team to ensure strong delivery. Throughout the summer, we will host information sessions to share more details with the community, answer questions, and invite early interest.

This is more than a program. It is a step toward long-term food security, confidence, and community resilience.

We are truly excited for what is ahead.

Yesterday at the Multicultural Ramadan Bazar & Expo, we were reminded of the strength that
comes from gathering in community, sharing space, stories, and a collective commitment to care for one another.

Our team at was grateful to spend the day at the St. John’s Farmers’ Market connecting with community members, partners, and families, and having meaningful conversations about food insecurity and the importance of building systems where everyone has access to nutritious food.

Events like these create opportunities to listen, learn, and move forward together.

As Ramadan invites reflection, generosity, and compassion, we’re thankful to have been part of a
space that brought people together in such a meaningful way.

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who stopped by our booth, we look forward to continuing this work alongside you.

Shoutout to our Director, Freddie Pike, for joining inspiring community leaders on Rogers TV to speak about the power of collaboration and the collective impact behind this weekend’s Ramadan community event 📺

This Sunday, NL Eats is proud to take part in a Ramadan gathering in collaboration with MSA and Global Citizen 🌙

This is a special time of reflection, generosity, and community connection, values that closely align with NL Eats’ commitment to advancing food security through innovation, skills building, and community driven support.

The event is open to people of all backgrounds and ages, with activities for children and a welcoming space for families and friends to come together.

This is also extra special as we recognize Black History Month. We are reflecting on the importance of cross cultural collaboration and why celebrating diverse voices and traditions is essential to building stronger, more connected communities.

We are grateful for partnerships that align with our mission and help us better serve the community. We hope to see you this Sunday.

NL Eats has been nominated for the Sustainable Business Award 2025 by the Canadian SME Small Business Awards — a national recognition that celebrates organizations creating measurable environmental, social, and community impact across Canada.

This nomination reflects the heart of our work:
✔ advancing sustainable food systems
✔ reducing food insecurity through community-led solutions
✔ empowering youth and underrepresented communities
✔ leveraging innovation, partnerships, and data-driven approaches to create lasting change

What makes this especially meaningful is that it recognizes impact over scale — proof that grassroots, mission-driven organizations can lead national conversations on sustainability.

🙏 Thank you to our funders, partners, sponsors, volunteers, students, and community members. This recognition belongs to all of you. Your belief, collaboration, and support make our work possible every single day.

National recognition like this reminds us why we do what we do — and why community-powered sustainability matters now more than ever.

💚 Onward, together.

Sharing moments from the World Food Forum Newfoundland & Labrador Chapter launch, a milestone that reflects how far this work has come and where it’s heading next.

This launch marked an important step in strengthening NL Eats’ alignment with the World Food Forum FAO United Nations. It reaffirmed a shared commitment to building food systems that are resilient, inclusive, and grounded in real community needs, while remaining connected to global dialogue and action.

That alignment matters. Because food security today is no longer just about food. It’s about skills, innovation, trade, climate resilience, and creating pathways for people, especially youth and communities, to participate meaningfully in shaping the future.

As global conversations continue, including those emerging from the World Economic Forum this week, we’re proud that NL Eats is contributing from the ground up. Translating big ideas into local action, partnerships, and opportunities.

This year, NL Eats has a lot in store.
From innovation challenges and community workshops, to skills-building initiatives, real work opportunities, and our flagship FOOD FORWARD convening, we’re entering a year focused on ex*****on, collaboration, and impact.

We’re excited about what’s ahead, and grateful to the partners, collaborators, and communities who are building this journey with us.

More to come.

Eating food. Eating good. Like NL should.

From a late-night couch idea to a community trailblazer. In February 2020, we were just a bunch of b’ys home from work (*which is now “work from home”) trying to create a platform for food lovers. Fast forward a few months, we are Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier hub for all things community, culture, and cuisine.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and our province’s efforts to tackle food insecurity, we’ve initiated Project #FoodForThought, an innovative community-driven foodbank. Currently serving in St. John’s Metro Region, we are actively focused on addressing food insecurity in our province.
