KO/LSE Cambodia successfully convened the SELL Curriculum Practice Reflection Workshop, bringing together Agricultural Cooperative (AC) leaders, local S.E.L.L. trainers, and Self-Help Group (SHG) leaders from Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, and Siem Reap provinces.

The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on six months of implementing the Social Life Skills for Effective Local Leadership (S.E.L.L.) Curriculum, share practical experiences, celebrate successes, identify challenges, and co-create solutions to strengthen future implementation.

To date, 40 local S.E.L.L. trainers have been trained and are actively applying their knowledge and facilitation skills within their communities. These trainers who are members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Agricultural Cooperatives (ACs) across the three provinces have already delivered S.E.L.L. training to more than 3,000 households, strengthening leadership, confidence, collaboration, and self-reliance among community members.

Participants also worked together to develop a five-month action plan to successfully complete the CSO4G Project, ensuring that the remaining activities are implemented effectively and that sustainable outcomes continue to benefit local communities under KO/LSE Cambodia's management.

Implemented through the CSO4G Project, funded by the European Union (EU), this initiative reflects KO/LSE Cambodia's commitment to strengthening local leadership and empowering communities to drive sustainable, inclusive, and locally led development.

We sincerely thank all participants for their commitment, dedication, and leadership.

Empowering Local Leaders Through Life Skills!

The Social Life Skills for Effective Local Leadership (SELL) curriculum, jointly developed by KO and Heifer Cambodia, is an innovative farmer training curriculum designed to strengthen the personal and leadership capacities of farmers and community groups. It equips participants with practical life skills to thrive in today's rapidly changing rural and community development environment.

To date, we have introduced the SELL curriculum and trained 40 farmers from our project partners to become SELL facilitators and practice trainers. These farmer trainers have successfully delivered the four SELL modules to 154 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), benefiting 3,446 participants who are members of 19 Agricultural Cooperatives.

The curriculum consists of four practical modules:

Clear and Confident Communication
Strategic Problem Solving and Decision Making
Productive Time Management and Stress Resilience
Personal Financial Skills and Stability

Through these modules, participants build stronger communication, confidence, resilience, leadership, and financial management skills enabling them to make better decisions, strengthen their households, and contribute more effectively to their communities.

This farmer-led approach demonstrates the power of peer-to-peer learning, where trained farmers become catalysts for change by sharing knowledge and practical life skills within their own communities. It is an important step toward building stronger agricultural cooperatives, more resilient households, and farmer-led food systems.

Together, we are investing in people, strengthening local leadership, and creating lasting impact for rural communities.

KO Organization staff and members of the Board of Directors participated in the 2026 Annual Agricultural Cooperative (AC) Summit on 27 May 2026 under the theme: “Strengthening Farmer-Led Food Systems and Beyond”, successfully organized by Heifer International Cambodia at Tonlé Bassac II, Phnom Penh.

The Summit convened more than 300 participants representing government ministries, development partners, financial institutions, private sector companies, agricultural cooperatives, community fisheries, community protected areas, academia, and farmer organizations.

The event served as an important national platform for dialogue, collaboration, and collective action aimed at strengthening Cambodia’s farmer-led food systems through climate resilience, regenerative agriculture, financial inclusion, market access, and institutional development.

During the opening session, Dr. Sareth Nhem, Country Director of Heifer International Cambodia, highlighted the urgent need to transform Cambodia’s food systems as farmers continue to face climate change, rising production costs, fragmented markets, and environmental pressures.

“Farmers are not beneficiaries of development; they are entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and leaders of Cambodia’s food systems transformation.”

Dr. Sareth also reaffirmed Heifer Cambodia’s commitment through the Cambodia Signature Program 2026–2035, which aims to engage 520,000 smallholder farming households by 2035 in building resilient and inclusive livelihoods through regenerative and farmer-led food systems transformation.

The Summit featured keynote remarks from:
✅ H.E. Khim Finan, Undersecretary of State, MAFF
✅ Mr. Pranjit Talukdar, Regional Catalyst for Access to Innovative Finance, Heifer International Asia
✅ H.E. Chuop Paris, Secretary of State, Ministry of Environment

Participants exchanged practical experiences and innovative approaches related to:
- Regenerative agriculture
- Blended finance and financial inclusion
- Cooperative strengthening
- Digital innovation
- Aquaculture and ecosystem restoration
- Climate-smart production systems
- Women and youth leadership in agribusiness

The Summit concluded with renewed commitments from all stakeholders to strengthen farmer institutions, expand inclusive markets, mobilize investment, and build resilient and sustainable food systems for Cambodia’s future.

[CSO4G project] What Happens After the SELL Training of Trainers (ToT)?

Following the completion of the SELL Training of Trainers (ToT) under the CSO4G Project, the real impact begins.

After designing and rolling out the new training of trainer on Social Life Skills for Effective Local Leadership (SELL) on February 11–12, 2026, we successfully trained over 40 farmers to become Master SELL Practice Trainers. They were equipped with practical tools, facilitation techniques, and leadership approaches to effectively train other farmers and Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

🔄 From Training Room to the Field

Now, these trained facilitators have moved from theory to practice. They have started piloting SELL training sessions directly in their communities and fields, applying the curriculum with fellow farmers.

📈 What This Means
• Knowledge is being multiplied farmer-to-farmer
• Leadership skills are being strengthened at grassroots level
• Farmers are improving communication, problem-solving, and teamwork
• Local organizations are becoming stronger and more self-reliant

This is more than completing a workshop, it is the beginning of a sustainable ripple effect. By empowering local farmers to become trainers, we are building long-term capacity, stronger governance, and resilient farming communities.

Together, we are cultivating not only crops, but confident leaders for the future.
