Caring for the environment starts with small actions. At Care for Cambodia, we teach children about the importance of protecting their environment, keeping their communities clean, and never simply throwing rubbish on the ground. But we also want those lessons to go beyond the classroom.

By getting out into their communities and picking up litter, the children are setting an example for their neighbours and helping to change hearts and minds. We believe that when children learn to care for the place they live, they can inspire their whole community to do the same.

A few months ago, Care for Cambodia received a generous donation of tablets, and we’ve been putting them to work ever since!

We installed a range of educational games, activities and learning resources, and the tablets now rotate between our Children’s Projects in different communities.

The response from the children has been wonderful. They’re excited when the tablets arrive, eager to explore the activities, and discovering that learning can be interactive, challenging and fun.

For children who may have very limited access to technology at home, these tablets provide an opportunity to develop digital skills while reinforcing what they’re learning in other parts of our programme.

It’s been encouraging to see how quickly the children engage with this different way of learning — and how much they enjoy it!

Yesterday was just the beginning.

We were delighted to present certificates to the young people who took part in our youth leadership event at the Care for Cambodia office.

We’re proud of the enthusiasm, ideas and potential we saw in these young leaders — and we’re expecting big things from them!

As John C. Maxwell said,
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

We pray these young people will grow into leaders who not only know the way, but help others find it too.

Today at the Care for Cambodia head office, we brought together existing and future youth leaders for a day of learning, sharing and developing leadership skills.

We were also joined by some of our older university students, who shared their own life experiences and the journey they’ve taken. Having walked the same path as many of the young people attending today, their stories provide encouragement and a real example of what is possible.

We hope these young leaders return to their home provinces inspired and equipped to invest in the next generation — helping young people find hope, make plans for their future and build a brighter life.

Many of you will remember the story of Sovanna, who tragically lost her husband in a motorcycle accident, leaving her widowed with four young children.

Through your kind support, we were able to provide fruit trees for her home and help her establish an income by setting up a small teaching programme from her house. She initially had just 7 or 8 children coming to learn.

As Sovanna has recovered mentally, physically and emotionally from the trauma of losing her husband, she has continued to grow the programme — and today, many children come to study with her each day.

What you see today is a wonderful testament to Sovanna’s resilience, determination and commitment to investing in her community.

Thank you to everyone who helped invest in her life. Your support has helped give her and her family hope, stability and a better future — while also benefiting many other children in her community.

It has been such a privilege to introduce my (Jonny) nieces to the work of Care for Cambodia over the past two weeks.

These amazing girls have grown up hearing about “Uncle Jonny” and Care for Cambodia almost since the day they were born. But there’s a big difference between hearing stories and seeing the work firsthand.

Over the past two weeks, they’ve had the opportunity to visit our projects, meet the children and see for themselves what Care for Cambodia does and the difference it makes. It has been wonderful to see their excitement, their curiosity and, most of all, the questions they’ve asked along the way.

Tomorrow they are heading back to the UK with a little more understanding of Cambodia, a greater awareness of the challenges faced by children and families in different parts of the world, and plenty of stories of their own to tell.

We hope and pray that they’ll share those experiences with their friends and help others understand, in a simple and meaningful way, a little more about the world beyond their own doorstep.

It’s been a real joy to watch them discover a part of Uncle Jonny’s life that they’ve heard about for so many years. ❤️

Maybe they will come back again soon…
