This , we’re looking back through the photo albums of our conservationists — to the days when they were under 30 and already taking their first steps for nature. 📸🌿

Some were walking through forests and wetlands for the first time. Some were working alongside communities, learning from mentors, conducting field activities, or discovering the species and landscapes that would later shape their careers. Those early experiences did more than create memories. They helped shape who they are today.The passion they found in their youth grew into years of commitment to protecting Cambodia’s nature and supporting the people who depend on it.

Their old photos also carry a message for young people today: You don’t have to wait until you are older to make a difference. What you choose to care about, learn, and act on today can shape the impact you make for years to come.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate the young conservationists of today — and those who remind us that every experienced conservationist was once a young person taking their first step. 💚

As the technical implementer of the Central Cardamom REDD+ Project, Conservation International Cambodia (CI Cambodia) has developed and is ensuring the accessibility and implementation of the Accountability and Grievance Redress Mechanism to address concerns, issues, and feedback from stakeholders, including Indigenous Peoples, related to project implementation. The mechanism ensures that all relevant concerns and issues are resolved in a fair, transparent, timely, and confidential manner. Public outreach and dissemination of the mechanism are ongoing to build trust, provide an effective process for stakeholders to voice their concerns or grievances, reduce conflicts during project implementation, and ensure compliance with CI’s environmental and social safeguards in REDD+ project implementation. Conservation International Cambodia (CI Cambodia) joined national, regional, and global conservation partners at a meeting on rangers and field implementation in the Cambodian context, organized by the Universal Ranger Support Alliance (URSA) on July 29–30, 2026. The meeting served as a platform to exchange experiences and lessons learned from past work, strengthen cooperation among stakeholders, and enhance support for rangers carrying out their mission to conserve natural resources across Cambodia. Over the two days, participants shared insights on conservation efforts, collaboration, and ranger-support initiatives across various landscapes in Cambodia. They also exchanged experiences and lessons learned with regional partners to promote mutual learning and build more effective collaboration. In addition, participants reflected on ranger best practices, discussed the challenges and field realities rangers face, and explored standards and effective implementation approaches to support natural resource conservation and strengthen ranger capacity in Cambodia. 🌿💚

From 20 to 24 July 2026, Conservation International Cambodia (CI Cambodia) held six public disclosure and dissemination meetings for the Central Cardamom REDD+ Project in Koh Kong and Pursat provinces, bringing together 324 stakeholders (188 women, 292 Indigenous People). Throughout the sessions, Chong and Por indigenous people, along with local stakeholders, engaged in discussions on key project documents and processes, including the Indigenous Peoples Plan, Environmental and Social Management Plan, Grievance Redress Mechanisms, Main Project Document summary, monitoring results, and validation and verification processes. These meetings helped strengthen community awareness of the project’s objectives, implementation progress, safeguard measures, community impact results, and verification standards, while ensuring that Indigenous Peoples and local stakeholders have access to relevant information and can participate meaningfully in the REDD+ process.

Conservation International Cambodia (CI Cambodia), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and other conservation organization partners, organized a celebration of World Ranger Day 2026 on 31 July 2026 at Preah Atith Ranger Station in Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary, Kampong Thom Province, under the theme “Guardians of a Changing World”. We celebrated and recognized the vital role of rangers as frontline guardians in protecting Cambodia’s forests, wildlife, biodiversity, and natural resources. It brought together representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Provincial Administration, Provincial Department of Environment, rangers, local authorities, and relevant partners, with approximately 140 participants (8 women). Participants gathered to honor the dedication and essential role of rangers in safeguarding natural resources. During the ceremony, ranger representatives delivered a commitment message, shared a demonstration of field patrol and law enforcement activities, and a tree-planting activity at the event site.

As a long-standing conservation partner, CI remains committed to working closely with the Ministry of Environment, local communities, Indigenous Peoples, and all relevant partners to strengthen protected area management, conserve biodiversity, build community resilience, and promote sustainable livelihoods.

Observed globally every 31 July, World Ranger Day honours the dedication and sacrifice of rangers working on the frontlines of conservation. In Cambodia, the annual celebration recognises the growing contributions of environmental park rangers as frontline guardians in safeguarding protected areas, enforcing environmental laws, preventing forest crimes, managing wildfires, monitoring biodiversity, supporting local communities and promoting environmental education.

Cambodia has made significant progress in expanding its protected areas from 23 in 1993 to 73 in 2026, which now covers approximately 7.05 million hectares, representing nearly 39 percent of the country’s land area. These landscapes provide
essential ecosystem services, support rural livelihoods, strengthen climate resilience and contribute to Cambodia’s vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
