WP - Wathnakpheap

Our mission is to improve the quality of life and livelihoods of disadvantaged women, children and the poorest families working in rural Cambodian communities.

We provide education, environment protection, life skills, and vocational skills. We are a frontline NGO working directly where development happens in some of the poorest rural areas of Cambodia. We are one of the most experienced and well-respected 'coalface' NGOs that implement for major NFPs and donors. We have the relationships, we have the knowledge, and we have the heart. WP delivers sustainable improvement to rural communities that are most in need. We improve the quality of life and livelihoods of disadvantaged children, women, and poor families by providing education, environment protection, life skills, basic health care and vocational skills training, using the principles of good governance and civic engagement. WP has been making a practical and sustainable difference in rural Cambodia by implementing community development projects at a sub-national, district, commune, and village-level, since 1997. Over the last 20 years, we have helped build over 4,000 community groups throughout 8 provinces in Cambodia. Wathnakpheap Organization, under the project "Improving Primary Education for Disadvantaged Children" in collaboration with the Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports and the District Office of Education, Youth and Sports, organized an orientation training session on organizing the school enrollment campaign for the 2026–2027 academic year at Ou Svay Primary School, Borei OSvay Sen Chey District, Stung Treng Province.

🎉📝On 1 September 2026 in Ratanakiri Province and 3 September 2026 in Stung Treng Province, Plan International Cambodia, in partnership with Wathnakpheap Organization (WP), officially launched the Zero Child Early Marriage Community Project (ZIP). The events were presided over by H.E. Hou Samit, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Women's Affairs (MoWA), and attended by representatives from national and sub-national administrations, schools, youth groups, communities, and other key stakeholders.

✏🇰🇭 The project aims to increase awareness and strengthen collaboration among government institutions, implementing partners, and local communities to prevent child and early marriage through effective, accountable, and participatory interventions. Through this initiative, stakeholders will gain a shared understanding of the project's objectives, implementation approaches, and expected outcomes, while reinforcing collective commitment and coordination mechanisms.

💝Importantly, the ZIP Project will complement to the in the making Action Plan
on Ending Child Marriage and Teenage Pregnancy 2026-2028, led by the Ministry of Women's Affairs (MoWA). By contributing to national efforts to address the root causes of child marriage and teenage pregnancy, the project will help strengthen girls' access to education, protection, life skills, and opportunities to make informed decisions about their futures.

📢 organized a project disseminate Workshop the Project on “Improving Primary Education for Out-of-School Children” at Stung Treng Provincial Hall on September 2, 2026.
The workshop was presided over by Mr. Pok Saroeun, Deputy Director of the Stung Treng Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sport, with a total of 60 participants in attendance. Attendees included representatives from the Provincial Department and District Offices of Education, commune authorities, school principals, primary school teachers, youth representatives, Plan International Cambodia, and Wathnakpheap.
The objective was to introduce the project to key stakeholders, local authorities, and development partners to enhance understanding of its goals, scope, and key activities, while building close collaboration and fostering strong stakeholder commitment.
📌 Project Overview: Duration: 3 Years (2026 – 2029), Target Area: 5 districts, 19 communes, and 50 primary schools in Stung Treng Province, direct Beneficiaries: 9,403 children (4,591 girls) and funded by: Plan International Cambodia.

🌟 "Career Experience Sharing: Preparing for the Future Work"
Wathnakpheap, in collaboration and supported by Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sport in Siem Reap province, and the principals of four lower secondary schools—Khun Ream, Ta Peng, Romchek, and Sna Kandal in Banteay Srei district—organized an awareness event under the theme:

"Student Achievements and Career Experience Sharing: Preparing for Future Work."
📅 Date: July 28–31, 2026- The event was attended by a total of 775 participants (including 468 females), comprising students, teachers, local authorities, and relevant partners.
The program also saw participation from representatives of Plan International Cambodia, commune chiefs, and numerous distinguished guests. They shared their personal experiences and success stories to encourage and motivate young girls and youth.
Speakers came from various sectors, including: Salon owners, heads of Student Affairs from international schools, private tailors, student teachers from the Provincial Teacher Training Center, tour guides, university students. In addition to the career experience-sharing forum, participants visited several exhibition booths:🎨 Student Achievement Booths, 🛠️ Vocational Skills Booths, 🌱 Agricultural Product Booths, 🎓 Information Booths from institutes, universities, and partner organizations.
This event provided students with the opportunity to explore career options, pursue further education, develop life skills, and build confidence in planning their futures.

🌱 Knowledgeable Parents Build Brighter Futures for Children 💙📚
Wathnakpheap (WP), in collaboration with core parent groups, conducts quarterly parent awareness meetings in five target communes: Thmar Anderk, Thmey, Dar, Kantuot, and Kantuot, Kratie province.
Through these village-level meetings, parents come together to share practical knowledge that helps create a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for every child.
📌 Key topics include:
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents' roles and responsibilities in supporting children's education and healthy development.
💙 Positive discipline and the promotion of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI).
🛡️ Child protection and safeguarding children from violence, abuse, and neglect.

👩‍🏫គ្មិនកិត្តិយសពិសេស៖ យើងបានទទួលការចូលរួមពីវាគ្មិនស្រ្តីជាម្ចាស់អាជីវកម្មចំនួន ៤ រូប ដែលបានមកចែករំលែកនូវបទពិសោធន៍ ភាពជោគជ័យ និងបញ្ហាប្រឈមក្នុងការគ្រប់គ្រងអាជីវកម្មយ៉ាងស៊ីជម្រៅ។

🚀✨[“Future Ready” Project]
📝The “Future Ready” project successfully organized a 4-day training course (July 1–4, 2026) on “Developing the Capacity and Readiness of Youth for Careers and the Future” at Phnom Penh 51 Hotel. This program was co-organized by Wathnakpheap (WP) and the Vocational Orientation Department (MoEYS), funded by Plan International Cambodia-Spain.
🎯 Main Objective: To empower children and youth club members, as well as school career counselors from 4 target secondary schools in Phnom Penh, in effectively planning their future career paths.
👩‍🏫Special Guest Speakers: We were honored to have 4 inspiring female business owners who shared their valuable lessons, business management experiences, successes, and challenges with our youth.
👥 Participants: A total of 26 participants attended, including children and youth club members, career counselors, school directors, Vocational Guidance Department trainers, WP staff, Plan International staff, and our distinguished speakers.

🇰🇭អង្គការវឌ្ឍនភាព (WP) សហការជាមួយមន្ទីរអប់រំ យុវជន និងកីឡាខេត្តស្ទឹងត្រែង (PoEstg) បានរៀបចំ វគ្គបណ្តុះបណ្តាលដំណាក់កាលទី៥ រយៈពេល ៧ថ្ងៃ ស្តីពី ការងារគ្រប់គ្រងរដ្ឋបាល និងការងារបច្ចេកទេសបង្រៀនផ្នែកមត្តេយ្យសិក្សាសហគមន៍ និងពិធីប្រគល់លិខិតបញ្ជាក់ការបញ្ចប់ការសិក្សា 35ថ្ងៃ ដល់អ្នកគ្រូមត្តេយ្យសិក្សាសហគន៍២២រូប វគ្គបណ្តុះបណ្តាលនេះបានប្រមូលផ្តុំគ្រូមត្តេយ្យសហគមន៍ចំនួន ២៥រូប ដើម្បី៖ ✅ ពង្រឹងការយល់ដឹងឱ្យកាន់តែស៊ីជម្រៅអំពីការអភិវឌ្ឍកុមារតូច។ ✅ បង្កើនបច្ចេកទេសបង្រៀនឱ្យកាន់តែមានភាពច្នៃប្រឌិត និងប្រសិទ្ធភាព។ ✅ ឆ្លុះបញ្ចាំងពីបញ្ហាប្រឈមក្នុងថ្នាក់រៀន និងចែករំលែកបទពិសោធន៍ល្អៗទៅវិញទៅមក។
☘️គោលបំណងរបស់យើងគឺ ដើម្បីធានាថា កុមារគ្រប់រូបនៅក្នុងមត្តេយ្យសហគមន៍ ទទួលបានការអប់រំ និងការថែទាំដែលមានគុណភាពខ្ពស់។ បន្ទាប់ពីវគ្គបណ្តុះបណ្តាលនេះ ក្រុមការងារយើង រួមជាមួយមន្ទីរ និងការិយាល័យអប់រំ នឹងបន្តចុះគាំទ្រផ្ទាល់ ដើម្បីប្រែក្លាយមេរៀនទាំងនេះទៅជាការអនុវត្តជាក់ស្តែងនៅក្នុងថ្នាក់រៀន។

🙏💝Together, We Strengthen the Foundation of Early Childhood Education
Wathnakpheap(WP), in collaboration with the Provincial Office of Education, Youth and Sport of Stung Treng (PoE Stung Treng), organized the 5th phase of a 7-day training course on administration and teaching techniques for Community Preschool teachers. During the event, 22 Community Preschool teachers also received certificates after successfully completing the 35-day training program.
The training brought together 25 Community Preschool teachers to ✅ Improve their understanding of early childhood development, ✅ Strengthen their teaching skills with more creative and effective methods, ✅ Reflect on challenges in the classroom and share good practices and experiences with one another.
☘️ Our goal is to ensure that every child attending a Community Preschool receives quality education and care. After the training, WP, together with the PoE and DoE will continue to provide on-site coaching and technical support to help teachers apply what they have learned in their classrooms and improve the quality of teaching.
