Equitable Cambodia is among the leading advocates of housing, land and natural resource rights in Cambodia. Through policy research, advocacy at the national and international level, coalition building, and community organizing and networking efforts, Equitable Cambodia has elevated the issue of forced evictions and land-grabbing in Cambodia and made the international community and the national authorities more responsive to this pervasive human rights problem. Equitable Cambodia has been engaged over the years in extensive efforts to support human rights defenders and expand access to justice. It has developed ground-breaking popular education curriculum on international human rights law, domestic law, and strategies that communities can employ to defend their rights in the face of forced displacement. We have trained more than 100 grassroots facilitators from fifteen Cambodian provinces and municipalities who are now actively using these materials to raise awareness and support threatened communities across the country. We have pioneered the use of human rights impacts assessments as an advocacy tool in Cambodia and has successfully assisted communities to access the accountability mechanisms of international financial institutions and lodge extra-territorial human rights complaints against trans-national companies and international development agencies in their home jurisdictions. These efforts have not only been successful in securing remedies for affected communities but also influencing important policy changes at multi-lateral and bi-lateral development institutions.

Three participants from the 2026 Youth Camp organized an echo training on “Gender and Civics” on 4 October 2026 in Sen Aphiwat Village, Kronoung Senchey Commune, Snoul District, Kratie Province. The training brought together 24 participants, including 16 women and five Muslim and Khmer participants.
💬 Participant reflections:
- Female Muslim participant: I was very happy to take part in today’s training. The lesson that interested me most was preventing sexual harassment because I had previously considered certain behaviours, such as being physically close to friends, normal and did not realize that some could constitute sexual harassment. This was new knowledge for me, and I hope there will be more sessions like this in the future.
- Female participant: I was very happy to have the opportunity to explore new topics and gain knowledge. The lesson that interested me most was human rights because everyone has equal rights without discrimination.
💬 Facilitator reflection:
- Female Indigenous Jaray facilitator: I am very happy that facilitating this training helped me gain new knowledge, experience, and confidence. I also learned about teamwork and had the opportunity to present lessons that I initially found difficult. This encouraged me to study those topics further so I can apply the knowledge correctly in daily life. I believe this learning will help me perform my work more effectively.

Following the joint Training of Trainers and Democracy Summer Camp, three grassroots trainers from the 2025 training and the 2021 and 2026 youth camps conducted two community echo-trainings on “Debtor Rights, Gender, and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment” and “Civics and Gender Equality.” The sessions were held on 26 September 2026 in Siem Reap Province. A total of 39 Khmer participants attended, including 30 women, one LGBTIQ+ participant, and two participants with disabilities.
💬 Participant reflections:
- Female participant: During this full-day community sharing session, I gained detailed knowledge of both topics. Previously, I did not know that debtors had rights because I had never learned about this issue. After participating in the session, I now understand which actions can violate debtors’ rights, what we can do when problems arise, how we should respond, and whom we can contact for support. Regarding the prevention of sexual harassment, I had not realized that certain behaviors—such as making kissing gestures toward others, which I used to do as a joke—could be considered sexual harassment. After learning about this topic, I believe we should stop such behaviors because they may constitute sexual harassment.
- Male high school student: I gained a clear understanding of the lesson on preventing sexual harassment and found it particularly interesting because it helped me recognize which actions can violate a person’s rights and constitute sexual harassment. In the past, I often made jokes without realizing that some of the things I said could be inappropriate. I now understand that certain jokes and comments are wrong and may negatively affect others.

On 27 September 2026, three participants from the 2025 Grassroots Trainer program conducted a community echo training on “Land Rights and Debtors’ Rights” in Bor Nhok 1 Village, Samaki Commune, O'Chhum District, Ratanakiri Province. The training was attended by 22 Tompoun Indigenous participants, including 16 women and one person with a disability.

- Tompoun Indigenous participant: “I thank the three facilitators for sharing knowledage about debtors’ rights with our community today. In the past, debt often caused us fear and pressure. This was also the first time I learned about invalid land sales and purchase contracts. I will share this knowledge more widely within the community.”
- Sub-village chief: “Today, I gained a clearer understanding of debtors’ rights and land sales and purchase contracts. As a local authority, I had never previously received training on these topics. I will share what I learned with community members so they can better understand these issues.”

On 26 September 2026, three participants from the 2024 and 2025 Youth Camps conducted an echo training on “Civics and Gender Equality, and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment” in Tropang Bos Village, Ondong Por Commune, Romeas Hek District, Svay Rieng Province. The training was attended by 16 Khmer participants, including 10 women, comprising Grade 11 and 12 students and teachers from Andong Pro Primary School.

- The topics and lessons were valuable to both me and my community. I gained new knowledge, experience, and skills that I can apply to my studies and daily activities.

អង្គការសមធម៌កម្ពុជា សូមថ្លែងអំណរគុណដល់យុវជនបោះជំរំឆ្នាំ២០១២ ដែលបានចែករំលែកលើប្រធានបទ “ការយល់ដឹងច្បាប់ការងារ កិច្ចសន្យាការងារ” ក្នុងកិច្ចប្រជុំបណ្តាញមិត្តបោះជំរំត្រីមាសទី៣ នៅថ្ងៃទី២០ ខែកញ្ញា ឆ្នាំ២០២៦ តាមប្រព័ន្ធអនឡាញ។ កិច្ចប្រជុំនេះមានអ្នកចូលរួមចំនួន ២៤នាក់ (ស្ត្រី ១២នាក់, LGBTIQ+ ១នាក់)។ អ្នកចូលរួមជាជនជាតិដើមភាគតិច៥នាក់ដូចជាចារ៉ាយ ព្រៅ ពូនង ខ្មែរ-ឥស្លាម និងជនជាតិខ្មែរ។

Equitable Cambodia extends its sincere thanks to a Youth Camp 2012 alumna for sharing her knowledge on “Understanding Labor Law and Employment Contracts” during the third quarterly meeting of the Democracy Summer Camp Youth Network, held virtually on 20 September 2026. The meeting brought together 24 participants, including 12 women and 41 LGBTIQ+ participants. Participants also included five Indigenous Peoples and ethnic groups, including Jarai, Punorng, Prov, Khmer-Islam, and Khmer.
Participants’ reflections:
- Youth Camp 2020 Participant: Thank you to the Equitable Cambodia team for coordinating and sharing information about this meeting with me. For me, this lesson was new, so I did not participate much in answering the questions. However, I tried my best to listen and take notes. I gained a lot of new information and knowledge from this sharing session. I hope that Equitable Cambodia will continue to invite speakers with similar expertise and experience to share their knowledge in future sessions.

- Youth Camp 2019 Participant, Khmer-Islam: I shared a lot during this session, but I also learned a great deal and gained a deeper understanding of employment contracts. I would like to thank Equitable Cambodia for consistently creating learning opportunities, and I encourage the organization to continue offering both short- and long-term knowledge-sharing sessions in the future.

The “Do No Harm” direct training was successfully held in Phnom Penh on 12–13 September 2026, with 26 participants, including 12 women, 3 LGBTIQ+ participants, and 2 people with disabilities. Participants represented diverse communities, including 3 Indigenous Kouy, 5 Indigenous Kreng, 2 Indigenous Tompoun, 1 Indigenous Kajork, 1 Indigenous Prov, and Khmer participants.
💬 Participants reflection:
- 2026 Trainer from Siem Reap: Studying and analyzing the root causes of an issue is essential because it helps us identify contributing factors, especially those that create dividers, and understand why they occur. Connecting factors are also important for reducing dividers and strengthening connectors among people. I would like to thank the facilitators and Equitable Cambodia for giving me the opportunity to join this training, even though I only completed lower secondary education.
- Indigenous Kouy Trainer from Preah Vihear Province: Thank you to Equitable Cambodia for continuing to give me the opportunity to learn about Do No Harm tools. I hope to have more opportunities to conduct echo trainings with other communities.
