GERES' action in Southeast Asia operates in Cambodia and Myanmar and contributes to the mission of a global movement advocating for a switch to sustainable production and consumption patterns and behavior. h governments in support of the creation and implementation of national Wood Energy strategies, GERES contributes its expertise in the areas of sustainable forest management, sustainable woodfuel production and consumption, and Improved Cookstove (ICS) project design and implementation. Our team in Southeast Asia is made up of more than 80 highly committed & experienced specialists in the energy, environment, agronomy, research, rural development and education sectors, based in two offices, in Phnom Peng and Yangon. GERES offers a wide range of consultancies to companies and organizations, particularly in the areas of sustainable biomass energy, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon audit services. GERES is the first NGO to enter the Carbon market - Voluntary Carbon Standard - with an improved cookstove project which it implements in Cambodia.

The CapCEE project, led by Geres, implemented by ITC, in close collaboration with CGTI, and funded by the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED), conducted a “Workshop on Practical Energy Efficiency Implementation in Industry," alongside the Certificate Energy Auditor Headout Ceremony for participants of the third Certified Energy Manager & Auditor Training (CEMAT) program.

The workshop was designed in line with Cambodia’s National Energy Efficiency Policy 2022-2030, which emphasizes practical and low-cost improvements in the industrial sector. It focused on disseminating the CapCEE technical brief and guiding participants on how to identify, prioritize, and plan energy-efficiency actions within real industrial settings.

The event combined technical learning, practical application, and professional recognition, strengthening the link between capacity building and implementation.

Expected outcomes of the workshop include:
• Technical Brief shared with all participants
• Stronger awareness and readiness for implementation
• Improved stakeholder networking and collaboration

This initiative continues to support the development of a skilled workforce driving Cambodia’s transition toward more efficient and sustainable industrial growth.

Geres was honored to participate in the Kick-Off Workshop of the Cooling Home – Innovative and Low Impact Living (CHILL) Project alongside Live & Learn Cambodia, Institute of Technology of Cambodia, and the Ministry of Environment.

The workshop marked an important step toward promoting sustainable passive cooling solutions, energy efficiency, and low-impact living for urban housing in Cambodia through strong multi-stakeholder collaboration.

🌟 Strengthening Cambodia’s Future in Energy Efficiency!

On 30th April 2026, the Workshop on the "Review and Finalization of CEMAT Training Materials" was successfully conducted in Kampot Province under the Capacity for Cambodia Energy Efficiency (CapCEE) Project, funded by Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) and implemented by Geres and the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and technical review by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

The workshop brought together representatives from government institutions, development partners, academia, and technical experts to review and strengthen the Cambodian Energy Manager and Auditor Training Program (CEMAT) for 2026–2030.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in technical presentations, collaborative discussions, and interactive group sessions focused on improving the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) training materials. The workshop also provided a valuable platform to exchange lessons learned, integrate international best practices, and align the program with ISO 50001 energy management and auditing approaches.

Breakout group discussions encouraged participants to identify gaps, propose improvements, and develop practical recommendations to strengthen the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of future CEMAT training delivery in Cambodia.

The outcomes of this workshop will contribute to building stronger national capacity in energy management and auditing while supporting Cambodia’s transition toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future. ⚡

🌱 Continuing to Strengthen Local Capacity for Energy Efficiency!

We’re glad to share the completion of the fourth and final provincial training under the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME). This session brought together provincial authorities from Stung Treng and Kratie provinces to continue building momentum for energy efficiency at the local level.

Organized through the CapCEE project, the training supports teams responsible for implementing the National Energy Efficiency Policy (NEEP 2022–2030). The focus remains on practical skills and knowledge to help translate national policy into effective provincial action.

🗓️ A total of 26 participants joined the training, including 4 women, representing key provincial departments. Through interactive discussions and shared learning, participants strengthened coordination and enhanced their understanding of energy efficiency practices.

This initiative, funded by Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) and implemented by GERES and ITC in collaboration with MME, continues to play an important role in building local capacity for sustainable development.

Together, we are advancing toward a more energy-efficient and sustainable future for Cambodia. ⚡

We’re bringing the team together for an internal workshop to get things back on track and aligned with our timeline.

This half-day session will focus on reviewing each partner’s activities, improving coordination, and planning key upcoming milestones — including the Project Steering Committee meeting, Inception Workshop, and potential project visits.

It’s also a great chance to reconnect, share progress, and we will also introduce the new Geres country representative, Mr. Léo-Paul Clément, during this session.

Looking forward to a productive discussion and clear next steps.

🌱 Continuing Our Efforts to Strengthen Local Capacity for Energy Efficiency!

We’re pleased to share the successful completion of the third provincial training organized under the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME). The session took place in Kampong Speu and brought together local authorities from both Kampong Speu and Preah Sihanouk provinces.

Delivered through the CapCEE project, this training is part of ongoing efforts to support provincial authorities responsible for the National Energy Efficiency Policy (NEEP 2022 - 2030). The goal is simple: give local teams the practical skills and knowledge they need to promote energy efficiency and carry out NEEP 2022-2030 at the provincial level.

🗓️ Over three days, 31 participants joined the training, including 3 women, along with representatives from relevant provincial departments. This project was funded by Liechtenstein Development Service (LED), implemented by GERES and ITC in collaboration with MME.

By building stronger local capacity, this initiative helps lay the groundwork for effective NEEP 2022-2030 implementation and supports Cambodia’s shift toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.⚡

📌 Strengthening Collaboration for Sustainable Buildings in Cambodia.

Geres and the Department of Green Economy (Ministry of Environment) held a coordination meeting regarding the CHILL Project.

The discussion covered the CHILL Project progress and the Annual Action Plan for cooperation. These initiatives aim to enhance knowledge sharing, promote best practices in building retrofitting, and support the transition toward more energy-efficient buildings.
