People in Need Cambodia

People in Need Cambodia PIN is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the ideals of humanism, freedom, equality and solidarity.

We consider human dignity and freedom to be fundamental values. People in Need is a Czech non-governmental organisation providing relief and development assistance in Cambodia since 2008. Our country programme consists of three departments that house humanitarian and development projects. More than these three departments, PIN is at the forefront of technology and innovation to enhance humanitarian assistance in Cambodia. (1) Disaster Management & Urban Resilience: People in Need helps strengthen both rural and urban resiliency through close cooperation with the government on addressing disaster preparedness, COVID-19 response, gender-based violence prevention, and children protection, livelihood opportunities, and social protection advocacy. (2) Green Energy & WASH: People In Need helps address many challenges that many Cambodians living in rural areas are facing in regard to energy consumption. The program aims to strengthen the agriculture and fisheries sector by encouraging MSMEs, as well as individual consumers to use more environmentally friendly and affordable sources of energy, with a special focus on solar power. (3) TVET & Alternative Livelihoods: PIN’s TVET program dedicates to improving the employability situation of rural youths by ensuring the quality of technical and vocational education and training (TVET), public-private partnership fostering, and business development. This will build a solid ground for youths to be qualified laborers and to understand better the skills demand in the job market. The department also focuses on improving rural livelihoods, strengthen environmental protection and build sustainable change in the target project areas.

🌱🍅 Learning from the field, growing towards sustainable agriculture

On 7 October 2026, we organised a learning visit for farmers and key stakeholders to a demonstration farm in Kork Thum Village, Speu Province, to learn about the use of organic biochar-based fertilisers for tomato cultivation.

The visit offered an opportunity to observe the farm, exchange experiences and learn from the practical results of the field trial.

“After using organic biochar-based fertiliser, I have seen positive changes in my tomato plants. I can get better-quality tomatoes and higher income, while also improving the soil and reducing pests,” the farm owner shared.

🌱 Unlocking Carbon Finance for a Sustainable Agricultural Future in Cambodia 🇰🇭

On 21 September 2026, HUSK Ventures Cambodia organized a workshop under Clean Energy Week (CEW) 2026, titled “Unlocking Carbon Finance for Agri-MSMEs: Advancing the Circular Economy through Rice Husk Biochar and Waste Valorization Solutions.”

🤝 Held under the ASCA project, with the involvement of People in Need (PIN) and the Farmer and Nature Net (FNN), the workshop brought together stakeholders from the agriculture, finance, and green technology sectors to exchange knowledge and explore carbon finance opportunities for agricultural MSMEs in Cambodia.

🌾 During the workshop, HUSK Ventures Cambodia shared practical experiences in rice husk biochar and carbon credits, alongside results from ASCA demonstration farms. These insights highlighted the potential of transforming agricultural waste into valuable resources while supporting more sustainable agricultural practices.

♻️ The workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, encouraging stakeholders to explore green financing solutions and circular economy approaches that support agricultural MSMEs and contribute to a more sustainable future for Cambodia’s agricultural sector. 💚

☀️🌱 More Water, Stronger Pepper Farms!

“Before, getting enough water during the dry season was a real challenge. Now, we have a more reliable way to bring water to our pepper plants.” shared one beneficiary.

💧 This challenge is now being addressed for 10 Kampot pepper farmers, who together manage around 5,290 pepper plants across three farmer groups.

As part of recent support, People In Need (PIN) installed three solar water pumps for three farmer groups. The pumps help move water from wells into ponds, giving farmers a more reliable water supply for their pepper plants during the dry season.

☀️ By using solar energy for water pumping, farmers can reduce the time and costs previously needed for irrigation, while having a more reliable water supply to maintain their pepper plants when rainfall is limited.

New Publication | Barrier Analysis of Green Agricultural Technologies in Cambodia

Green Agricultural Technologies can help agricultural businesses reduce costs, improve resource efficiency and respond to climate challenges. Yet adoption among Agri-MSMEs remains slower than its potential.

A new study under the ASCA Project looks at the factors behind this adoption gap, including purchasing decisions, product value, pricing, financing, marketing, sales and after-sales support.

The study brings together perspectives from 107 Agri-MSMEs, 11 agricultural groups, 10 G*T companies and 4 financial institutions across six provinces.

🌱 Promoting Local Products Through Sustainable Agriculture

Strong local products start with strong and sustainable farming communities. Through our support to Agricultural Cooperatives (ACs), we are promoting the adoption of sustainable agricultural inputs and practices through interactive village- and commune-level small-group meetings.

These grassroots sessions bring farmers together to share knowledge, learn from local experiences, and explore practical alternatives that can help improve soil fertility, support beneficial microorganisms, strengthen crop resilience, and reduce reliance on conventional inputs.

By strengthening community-led extension services and knowledge sharing, we are supporting farmers to make informed choices and encouraging a transition towards more natural and sustainable agricultural practices.

Cambodia's underutilised agricultural residues, like rice husks and crop waste, offer real potential for clean energy and soil health. This session explores converting biomass into energy, biochar, and value-added products, featuring HUSK Ventures Cambodia's experience using pyrolysis to generate thermal energy while producing biochar for agricultural use under the Accelerating Sustainability in Cambodia’s Agri-Food System project.
