The Sunflower Orphan Centre (SOC) is a non-government organization (NGO) which was officially registered with the Cambodia Ministry of Interior, start the project on 2002 and re-registered on 17 October 2008. The Centre was established to care for and support children:
• with HIV who had been orphaned in the traditional sense,
• who were rejected by family due to their HIV status, or
• who are eco
nomic orphans, unable to be cared for within their families. Since 2007 SOC has been supported by volunteers, visitors, fund raising activities and small, inconsistent private donations. Current situation:
The current funding situation has made it very difficult for SOC to establish programs that will take care of the children from being pre-teens to teens to young adults, providing vocational and life skills training. SOC needs relief from the ongoing funding activities that we engage in so that we may focus on the development of the children of Sunflower. These children aged 6-16 are now entering or have entered a stage in their lives where their developmental needs require considerable attention, especially if they are to become successful adults in a difficult society that Cambodia currently is. Education and vocational training is highly valued by all the staff at SOC. As the children in our care move into their teens, we are very much aware that their requirements are different. Target group:
SOC supports 200 community children
from many place, some poor, orphan and students
twelve children live at the Centre and many children live in the community.
• Some children were abandoned with no record of their family.
• Some children are not wanted by their immediate or extended family due to fear and ignorance about HIV.
• Families have been devastated by HIV, with parents and close relatives dying from the HIV/AIDS and are unable to take care of the children. How you can help? Transfer to my account as :
