🎓 Welcoming home Cambodia’s latest changemakers! 🇰🇭👩🏻‍🎓🇦🇺✨

Completing my master’s degree in public health is an important milestone in my life. I feel grateful, proud, and excited about the opportunities ahead in Cambodia.

I’m proud to have conducted a study that helped me better understand Cambodia’s strong and resilient health system. I’m also very thankful to my university supervisors for their valuable guidance and continued support.

Beyond my studies, I appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with Australian colleagues, make new friends, and learn from people from different cultural backgrounds.

During my studies, I learned that public health is not only about improving people’s health. It’s also about using evidence to support good decisions, addressing the social factors that affect health, promoting fairness, and making the best use of limited resources. The knowledge and skills I gained have increased my confidence as a researcher and strengthened my commitment to evidence-based public health.

I look forward to applying what I’ve learned to help strengthen the health system, make it more resilient, and contribute to achieving Universal Health Coverage. I’m deeply grateful to the Australia Awards program for this life-changing opportunity.

Speaking at the Australia Awards Scholarships Intake 2027 Induction Day on October 2, Australian Ambassador Derek Yip welcomed the growing number of women and STEM students among the recipients.

He said the increase in STEM enrollment—from 15 percent in 2022 to 30 percent in 2026 and 40 percent this year—reflects the importance of investing in skills that Cambodia will need in the future.

“This is what investing in human capital is all about, right? It's about supporting and building talent in the areas where it's most needed. So, congratulations to all of you,” he said.

Empowering Cambodia’s Future: Celebrating Veng Chanthy’s Contribution to Education

On World Teachers’ Day, 5 October 2026, we celebrate Veng Chanthy, an educator and teacher-mentor who has dedicated more than a decade to teaching, teacher mentoring, and education development in Cambodia.

Chanthy works for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and also serves as a postgraduate lecturer. She has contributed to strengthening teachers’ and learners’ research capacity in higher education, including disability and inclusive education. Her work has helped promote stronger research and more inclusive practices across schools, classrooms, and education programs.

Chanthy completed a Master of Education in Digital Learning at Monash University in 2025. She says her experience in Australia broadened her perspectives and inspired her to bring new ideas to Cambodia’s education sector.

Chanthy reminds teachers:
“Teaching goes beyond simply passing on knowledge. It is about motivating, nurturing, and empowering every student and individual to ignite change.”

We congratulate Chanthy on her valuable contribution to education and her commitment to empowering teachers and learners.
