🎓 Welcoming Cambodia’s latest changemakers! 🇰🇭👨🏻🎓🇦🇺✨
The Australia Awards Scholarships did more than support my studies. It gave me the chance to live out a dream I once thought was far away. Even now, it still feels hard to believe this journey is real.
I often remember late nights outside the philosophy rooms, listening to the piano. Those moments made me grateful for the learning, conversations, and travel that shaped my time in Australia. They also deepened my interest in how we understand reality, which led me to take on a one-year research project on Cambodia’s development-security nexus.
My research on Cambodia’s security issues was not easy. I faced data challenges, but the bigger challenge was finding the right theory and being creative with the information I had. It took me around six months to write my theoretical and methodological justification. When my supervisor read it, he said, “You’re a scholar now.” I felt proud, but I also knew this was just the beginning. I’ll take this research skill home and keep improving it.
This experience also taught me that knowledge and skill only matter when guided by values. I learned that leadership isn’t just about position, but about the impact we make and the choices we make along the way.
Now, I see leadership as a moral responsibility. It makes me think not only about what I can achieve, but also about who I want to be in my community. That’s why I want to stay in the policy and research space, where I can help shape how people think and act.
