Children and Community Development Organisation (CCDO) is a registered local non-governmental, non-religious organization, currently playing a pioneering role in the development of the villages of Dongkor, on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. In recent years, Dongkor has seen an influx of thousands of families who have been displaced from Phnom Penh city; the victims of a long series of land
disputes. New communities and settlements have been formed, but the day to day issues faced by residents are extreme. Lack of employment options or income potential, poor sanitation and hygiene, lack of educational facilities, and a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS are just some of the conditions which are keeping the communities trapped in a cycle of poverty, with women and children being most vulnerable. CCDO is working towards a clear vision for social change and justice, in which children and their families can progress and enjoy the standard of living that they are entitled so, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We disseminate information to the community on child development, child rights and democracy, and encourage and support women and men who have family problems through counseling, consultation, and vocational training. Our core programs are:
- Business and Community
- Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC)
- HIV Outreach and Community Education
- Kindergarten
All activities carried out by CCDO aim to contribute to the provision and generation of opportunities through which community residents will be empowered to raise their own living conditions, healthcare, and education, thereby helping to alleviate poverty amongst women and vulnerable children. We currently implement activities in 6 communes of Dongkor District including: Sangkat Karkab Krangthnong, Kok Rorkar, Prey Sala, Samrong Krom and Trapeang Krasang.
