🌏 Climate change is reshaping migration, but behind every statistic is a human story.
A new case study from Banteay Meanchey, Cambodia, reveals how droughts, irregular rainfall, and declining agricultural productivity are pushing families to make difficult decisions about migration. Many households combine local adaptation efforts with migration to cope with growing climate and economic pressures. Remittances help support food security, healthcare, education, and housing, but migration can also separate families and leave older people and children behind.
The study is part of a broader synthesis covering Cambodia, Ethiopia, Honduras, and Mali, highlighting that while migration can strengthen resilience, it must be safe, voluntary, and dignified. Strengthening local livelihoods, expanding access to climate information, and creating safe migration pathways are essential to ensuring people have the right to choose whether to stay or move.
