Aroha Cambodia Project

Aroha Cambodia Project Aroha Cambodia was born out of a plan to volunteer for 6 months & now years later i can’t leave❤️🇰🇭 Life is ‘real’ And every day is valuable.

“Life is short, love what you do.” That was the closing line of a letter my late husband Craig wrote me the week before he passed away. This encouragement has stayed with me and I have chosen to live out his words by moving from the comforts of New Zealand to volunteer in Cambodia - inspired to live generously, with joy and purpose. Having originally intended to volunteer for 6 months, I have now

been here 6 years - I just can't bring myself to leave. There's so much need and so much we can contribute to improving people’s lives. My eyes and heart have been opened to one of the poorest countries in the world. It’s overwhelming and everyone is affected. The country is still recovering from its tragic past of genocide during Pol Pot’s regime in the 1970s. Countless numbers of children were left orphaned by the Khmer Rouge and the subsequent HIV epidemic. But many of these children were rescued and now have opportunities they would never have had otherwise. Making those opportunities count for the youth of Cambodia is what the Aroha Project is all about. I’ve named it ‘Aroha Project’ because my goal is to bring practical love to the youth of Cambodia (‘Aroha’ means love in New Zealand’s native language, Maori)

With the generous help and support of sponsors like you, I have set up a Leadership Home in Phnom Penh, as well as a scholarship program, to support young adults whilst they attend university...taking care of their living and course costs so they can focus their full energy on study. With a good support structure in place, my hope and prayer is that they will grow into the future professionals and leaders that Cambodia so desperately needs to transform as a nation. Over the last 5 years I've had the privilege to mentor, guide, encourage and walk alongside many underprivileged and orphaned youth. Go to www.arohaproject.com to read more

Sometimes people ask what I actually do in Cambodia, and I realise I don’t often share the outcomes or the everyday work behind the scenes. I tend to just quietly keep going.

Over the years, through the Aroha Project, we’ve been able to:• Support children with education and school supplies• Open and run our Education Centre• Help families during emergencies and difficult times• Provide food support and community relief• Create scholarship opportunities for young people• Build trusted relationships within local communities• Support children to stay in school and continue learning• Help provide hope, encouragement, and practical care where it’s needed most and more recently sending supplies to displaced families on the border…just a brief summary!

None of this happens alone. Every person who has donated, encouraged, shared a post, bought something, sponsored a child, or simply believed in what we’re doing has been part of it too.

I know I don’t always post the “results,” but I’m very proud of the quiet impact that has been made over the last 11 years in Cambodia 🇰🇭 ❤️ Annie Wilson

This little boy has a dream. He saved enough money to buy a keyboard and mouse and has now set his goal on a computer. He is 10 years old. His mum sent this to me and said he told her to keep praying. I’m just putting it out there… if there is anyone who wanted to help a little bit to help him get closer to his dream? He’s a very bright student so I know this would be an asset to his future. Message me if you would love to help .

At the moment, a lot of what we do in Cambodia happens quietly behind the scenes — supporting children through education, helping families in crisis, providing emergency relief, and caring for widows and elderly people in local communities.

As our vision grows, we are now hoping to expand further into the provinces with community outreach and practical support for vulnerable people who are struggling.

Sometimes I feel like people don’t really see or understand the heart behind what we do, so this season is about finding clearer ways to share the journey, build awareness within Cambodia, and grow a stronger community around the project.

Follow along and support our journey ❤️🙏🇰🇭

Eleven years in Cambodia… and I am still humbled daily.

This beautiful lady walked past tonight carrying her livelihood on her head — steady, proud, focused.

It reminded me why education matters so much…
Because behind every child is a mother, a grandmother, a family working tirelessly for a better future. This is the heart of Cambodia.
Resilient women. Devoted families. Hardworking hands.

Hope grows here. 🌸

If you’ve ever wondered whether your support makes a difference… it does. Every little bit helps lighten the load and open doors for a child’s future. 🤍

Thank you for walking this journey with us❤️🇰🇭

A huge thank you to the Weaver family for helping to support our education centre for the month of February. The children were super excited to make some signs to show their love and thankfulness: thank you for helping us help them receive education and empowerment for their future.
